Top Democratic officials have quietly walked away from their threat to shut down the government if the GOP does not approve a “clean Dream Act.”

The retreat was announced in the Monday statement from Democratic leaders agreeing to meet with President Donald Trump on Thursday:

We must also come together on a bipartisan deal to pass the DREAM Act long with tough border security measures. There is a bipartisan path forward.

In prior statements, the Democrats demanded GOP approval for an amnesty for 30 million illegals, without any safeguards or offsets for American people.

Democratic leaders and their amnesty advocates have consistently rejected any offsets, such as reductions in chain-migration, and any safeguards, such as funding for a border wall and mandatory use of “E-Verify system by company recruitment officers.

The hardline amnesty position is driven by the Democrats’ strategic reliance on immigrant voters — many of whom rely on government aid — to counter the electoral power of President Donald Trump’s pro-American, populist policies.

The Democrats’ proposed Dream Act amnesty would provide green cards for three million younger illegal immigrants including the 690,000 current DACA beneficiaries. Without offsets, it would allow the new migrants to get a huge variety of taxpayer aid, such as Obamacare.

It would also allow them to bring in millions of subsequent chain-migration arrivals — regardless of age and skills, ideology and education — and would encourage another wave of illegal migrants to smuggle their children into the United States.

GOP leaders have repeatedly said they will not include an amnesty in the 2018 budget.

However, GOP leaders have offered to make a deal in the new year, which would trade some form of amnesty for some number of illegal immigrants, in exchange for a series of benefits for Americans, including an end to chain migration

I didn't want add the source link because it was Breitbart. Still, interesting article nonetheless.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, as touched upon up top, the House Republican leadership said it was forging ahead with a stop-gap bill to keep the government funded through Dec. 22 and avoid a shutdown, despite a Monday night push from the conservative Freedom Caucus to move the date past Christmas. Lawmakers emerged from a House GOP conference meeting on Tuesday morning indicating that leaders are leaning toward a two-week continuing resolution (CR).

“Leadership is locked in on Dec. 22,” Freedom Caucus Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) told The Hill.

The Freedom Caucus had protested the strategy and held up a vote on a motion to go conference with the Senate on tax legislation Monday night until they got assurances from leadership that they would consider a longer CR. But leaders appear to be sticking with their original plan.

I think Dems will get CHIP funding in the CR and will vote for it and we'll have to wait until Dec. 22

republicams are so stupid are they just going to keep doing 2 week CR? Eventually they have to meet all democrats demands. Then putting in CHIP to get dem votes just shows they need dem votes. I think Ryan and McConnell are delaying the inevitable

Why is Dream Act so hard for Republican? Is it that bad to legalize us? Why is it so difficult for legalize 800000 young people who are contributing to this country? Why do they have to do all this to stop DA?

As I much as I hate to say it, I don’t think they want to legalize more people than the DACA people. They’re already having a hard time trying to help us. I can see Republicans voting on a solution for just the DACA people.

Republicans have distanced themselves so much from the latino community that they rather milk the racist white base for as long as they can.
