My Advance parole trip. Everything to gain/ everything to lose.

Just returned yesterday Dec 31, 2017 from my 3 day advance parole trip. Just alittle back story, I was approved for advance parole back in June,2017 (after applying on September 21, 2016). I was hoping to travel before Trump took office but they were slow processing applications, and I didn't hear anything back until February, 2017, when I got an RFe for New dates.

I just wanted to come back on here to share my experience because everyone else's experience gave me the courage to take to chance and travel with AP/ DACA. I traveled for 3 days, departed from Atlanta airport to Kingston jamaica. My mother who is a LPR came with me for moral support. Came back home returning through Atlanta on December 31, 2017. My experience in Jamaica was surreal, I was in my birth place ( for the first time since 1989, 29 years) but it was a whole different world to me because I left there when I was 5 years old, so i don't remember much about ever living there. Coming back to the U.S. was much easier than i thought it would be. I got off the plane , went to customs/immigration visitors line by myself. Told them I had a travel document advance parole. They took my passport and advance parole papers, took my finger print, my picture, stamped my passport, then gave me back one copy of the AP paper that wasn't stamped, and kept the stamped AP paper. It was way less stressful than I thought it would be. the CBP officer said DACA and the only question he asked was what was my profession, I told him I was a nursing student, he told me make sure I hurry up and finish school, I said I will, then he said ok have a good day. I was so surprised that was it, so I was still standing there and he said that's it you are done. Then on my way out I went to a room where customs check your bag, I kept it simple didn't bring back anything for them to question me about like food, fruits, so that was it and I left to go back home to my family.

I just want to add to my experience by saying, I was almost not going to take this trip after Trump rescinded DACA. But from everyone still sharing their successful experience (traveling with Ap/DACA after September 5th) on another site in on immihelp.com, I decided to take the chance and travel, feeling like this could be my last opportunity because my AP was only valid until January 7th, 2018.

I felt like I had everything to gain or everything to lose. The thought of not being able to come back to my family, my husband and 3 sons was killing me. But i decided to travel because I dont know what's going to happen with the DACA fix, and this could be my last opportunity to adjust via my USC spouse. I thank everyone on this site for sharing their experiences because it gave me the courage to finally apply for DACA in 2016 and also informing me about the benefits of advance parole. Thank you all and I hope something good is done for all dreamers

Thank you. Thank God it all worked out and I was able to return to the U.S., back to my family, with no issues. Yes, my next plan is to start the Adjustment of status process before my DACA status expires in May. Will be reading that AOS thread thoroughly because I plan to self file.

Congrats, i am happy that you took the chance, i am also from jamaica and i took the chance in april 2017 and i was so afraid that i wouldnt get to come back but i am happy i did and also happy u did too

Good for you! You have a lot of courage. It was too late for me to do AP and now I have to do I-601A wavier.

Thank you. It wasn't an easy decision, but I decided to pray on it, and utilize this window of opportunity, because my DACA status expires in May. I was afraid of being out of status because the i130/601a waiver takes more time than i had and on another online immigration forum people with DACA and advance parole after September 5th, where still traveling with no issues, that helped give me the courage to decide to travel. I'm really thankful to online forums like this one and immihelp.com, people sharing their experiences is how we help each other. ��

Man, that AP shit was a bummer. I would have to fabricate a medical record to prove someone in my family was in an emergency. I don't, and I didn't get to that stage because DACA was rescinded already.
