I guess it makes sense to have all the news in one thread soo I'll try to keep this post updated with all the updates / news we will get during or after the meeting. 12:40PM ET:Trump expressed openness to a clean DACA bill, w/ comprehensive reform next. But McCarthy chimed in abt security.
Feinstein: “What about a clean DACA bill now with a commitment to do comprehensive next?”

McCarthy: but we should have security too - @abbydphillip

12:45PM ET: Trump will sign anything that people in the room will come up with because he "TRUSTS" them. - video from the WH via CNN

01:30PM ET: Hard to overstate: trump is taking up almost every issue that splits republicans. Immigration. Massive spending increases. earmarks. Many conservatives think it’s corrupt. Some think it’s a constitutional prerogative. Yowza. Trump, in many ways, is leading republican leadership down a really, really treacherous path. @JakeSherman

12:48PM ET - 01:28PM ET: Trump: DACA, maybe we can do something. Secure border (wall), more support for ICE agents. End Chain migration, mentions the NYC Terror attack on the West Side Highway. Cancel lottery program. Those things are wanted by all the people... We don't need a wall across the 2k miles. Mentions fence from 2016. Wants to sit down negotiate, compromise and lets do it. He wants this to be an open forum.
Durbin: Challenged Congress by eliminating DACA and we have not done it. There are elements of boarder security that Democrats will support. There is urgency, people are losing DACA every day. We can reach an agreement in matter of days.
Cotton: Lack of trust between GOP and Democrats since there was no solution on this issue. I hope this will be a meeting where we can start to build trust. We want to provide legal protection for DACA population.
Hoyer: Americans are frustrated with us, as we can't agree on things we largely agree on. 86% of American ppl are for legalizing DACA. We need to pass this as american public will be pleased with all of us. We can pass the protection in both Senate and House. Democrats are for securing the boarder. Move forward with DACA first, deal with border security and rest of immigration issues later on. Make sure this fix is permanent.
Trump: I want a permanent solution as well. After we do DACA, I think we can do something else as well. DACA is first though.
McCarthy: We don't want to pass a bill that were not finished. Lets not have the same problem in 5-6 years. We need to do DACA, but we need to security as well. We all have to give a little, and I am willing to do so. Lets get it done.
Trump: Anything we do has to be merit based.
Goodlatte: The legistraltion will address DACA in pernament way not in temporary. We will address Wall, via boarder security. We will address all the issues you want to be fixed.
Perdue: Lets not do it all at once. That was the issue in past years, we did try to do everything at once. Lets do it in steps. This will be better and simpler. I don't think this will take long.
McSally: Those who need us is our military and not DACA. We have a March 5th deadline not Jan 19th deadline.
Hoyer: Military is important and our domestic issues are important, we cannot have another CR...
Cornyn: We need to understand what you will sign into the law.
Trump: We will get DACA done.
Graham: I will not support a bill unless you support it. I want a merit based immigration system, and I want to do it. 62% of trump votes support citizenship for DACA kids if you have strong borders. You have an opportunity to close this deal Mr President.
Trump: I want to do comprehensive bill and we are not far away from this deal. I'll take the heat for this if we can get it done. You are not that far way, if you want to make that extra step, you should do it.

There is an exchange between Feinstein and McCarthy about doing clean DACA... - too long to capture.

Nothing happens until the last two days (18 and 19) when people cave in to demands.

Seems like a promising start, especially this.

It's nice to hear the WH's confidence in reaching a deal. Trump's flexibility on the "wall" is a great sign as well.
