Quote:
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is donating $33 million to a scholarship program for young, undocumented immigrants, as lawmakers struggle to strike a deal for codifying legal protections for the immigrants, known as "dreamers."

Bezos and his wife MacKenzie will donate the money to TheDream.US, a fund that awards college scholarships to dreamers – undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.

The $33 million donation is the largest contribution to the program, which was established in 2014 by Donald Graham, the former publisher of The Washington Post. Bezos bought the newspaper in 2013.

The money will fund 1,000 college scholarships, TheDream.US said in a statement.

In the statement, Bezos noted that his father came to the U.S. from Cuba when he was 16, and that he wanted to help "today's Dreamers" with the donation to the scholarship program.

Lawmakers are working on a plan to codify protections granted by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program into law, after President Trump moved last fall to rescind the program.

But negotiations on such a deal are on the rocks after Trump and some congressional Republicans rejected a bipartisan proposal to enshrine DACA's protections into law while increasing border security.

Wow, this is great news for Dreamers starting college now.
It would have been great if they had this when I started.
I wish they had funding for graduate degrees.

Hmmm are DACA beneficiaries eligible for this?

I would like to try and see if I can get in on this when I start college next year.

Will have to research.

pretty sure this is only for people that are graduating this year, so what's the fucking point.
most are already in debt when they're that far in.

I’m trying to apply but you have to enroll in one of their partner colleges. Meh I though it was for any college as long as they have you paying out of state tuition.

Jeff Bezos is a great man and putting his title as the richest man in the world to great use.

LOL @ the responses. Some of you are the most selfish and delusional people I’ve ever seen. It’s all about “me, me, me”.

For javier: You are the worst since you are all set you don't want anything passing for the dreamers. You just don't want them to remove chain migration thats why you are still here. your fake sympathy towards tps holders and undocumented parents with USC children. Go eat a fat one it's our time to shine.
