Politics is a billion dollar industry. Democrats have top legal minds, lobbyists, and academics advising them. Why would they plan a government shutdown during a weekend, only to concede before it even goes into affect? Did they really miscalculate? I don't think so. This was the plan all along. Let me explain.

Let's look at the history of "Dream Act" it was initially introduced in 2001, then 9/11 happened, and 'amnesty' was off the table. Bush later attempted 'comprehensive immigration' which also failed. Next it was introduced again in 2009, when the Democrats had supermajority and a D president. However, due to ACA, it was shelved until 2010 when Dems lost the majority. That being said, it would've passed the senate had all Dems voted for it. They did not. Later in Obamas presidency, they passed another comprehensive immigration in the senate, but it had no chance in the Republican controlled house. This led to the infamous inception of DACA, an executive order Obama used to win the latino vote in 2012.

Do you see a pattern? The DA is only brought up when it has no chance to pass, when it does have a chance, there is always something to stop it. Meanwhile immigration remains a forefront issue Democrats continue to use to gain votes and donations from the minority community. Dream Act is and will always be our Moby Dick. Now let's talk about this 'shutdown'.

I don't think the timing of this shutdown was a coincidence, nor do I think the Federal court reinstating DACA was random. This was panned and timed to coincide with president Trumps 1 year anniversary. Democrats NEED the DACA issue to be a 2018 midterm rallying cry. Since they know people were expiring, they had the Federal court plan to bring DACA back, just in time, so that people could renew once more. In the meantime, to garner support, they planned a fake shutdown to show immigrants, "see? we care about you! we shut the gov down for you!" Schumer had to know whether his caucus could sustain a longterm shutdown or not, so why would he go into it? Because this way it is a win / win / win.

Win 1 - Dems show they tried, claim people can still renew one last time
Win 2 - Dems relinquish any leverage allowing Republicans to push poison pill plans
Win 3 - Dems refuse poison pills and claim the only way is to win the midterms

Dem's aren't stupid, they knew EXACTLY what they were doing. This was planned and orchestrated from the beginning and we played our parts, including Republicans, perfectly.

That was the dumbest thing I have read yet.

If it wasn't for the DACA situation, I can see you following Alex Jones all the way.

I think they are positioning themselves for the midterms. Whether they are sincere in helping Dreamers or not, I am not sure. Legalizing us could potentially turn some red states to blue in like a decade tho, so there's that also.

This is my pessimistic view, but I seriously doubt the dream act will ever pass. Congress has had many opportunities to pass it like you said, but decided not to. Heck, Schumer already admitted he even offered to build the wall with Mexico and Trump did not accept it. The dream act is just a political tool to get the Republican and Democratic bases active, and our lives are just toys in their little game.

I think the best benefit of DACA was advance parole to be able to leave and re-enter the country legally, which would allow someone to apply for a green card upon marrying a u.s citizen.

this is the same party that elected Hillary as their candidate when someone like Bernie could have easily won. I think you give them too much credit. I believe that they got out negotiated by one of the best negotiator, Trump.

Bernie wouldn't have won. He couldn't get more votes than Killary in the primaries. He got slaughtered. Was Killary a bad choice? Yes, but they had no other option. The Klintons have been bank rolling the DNC for years. They had to go with her regardless of their chances to win.
