Read an interesting article form the National Review talking about legalizing DACA and non-DACAs and it made me wonder something. If Congress came up with two options, legalizing all DACAs + Parents or legalizing all Dreamers without the ability to sponsor parents, which options would you guys lean towards?

I think it is something important to think about as Congress is thinking whether to legalize all Dreamers, just DACAs, and whether or not to end "chain migration", which will basically not allow us to sponsor our own parents if we are legalized.

I would say all undocumented youth (DREAM Act), no stipulation on barring sponsoring others.

Adding such a stipulation could have unintended consequences sparring other legislation and further creating mixed status families in greater frequency without a real good reason for that.

As it stands, even if a path was is created, it would still be many years before one can sponsor anyone.

You have to realize that as it stands, being able to sponsor someone also means that you have to become their fiscal sponsor, and prove they will not become a charge to the state for a minimum period of time, I believe 5 years. I think that is sufficient as it stands.

I'm in a favor of a Dream Act that covers ALL dreamers but leaves the door open to deal with other undocumented people at a later time. The current proposals don't do this.

The Current proposals only want to help CURRENT DACA recipients, and those who would qualify for DACA in the future (ie. older dreamers are excluded) while at the same time ending family sponsorship.

We should ABSOLUTELY NOT support this. Immigration law has not changed since the 1960's. If we VOLUNTARILY give away family sponsorship to our parents, it will be VERY hard to get back, if not impossible. I would rather much delay a DACA solution and at least rally all of our representatives to at least include our parents.

I'm OK with trimming who you can sponsor, but it should ALWAYS include all immediate family: parents + siblings + spouse + kids. Anything besides that is just un-American.
