Why not make DACA a legal status?

I've always wondered if talks regarding making DACA permanent involved making it a legal status so then we're able to adjust our status (not just via marriage). A lot of standard immigrant visas like H1-B enable one to adjust status once you get employer sponsorship - why not let DACA be put up to the same merits? To me this seems like a middle ground in terms of the DACA state currently, and conditional green cards.

I've done some research to see if TPS recipients were able to adjust status and it seems like they could (correct me if I'm wrong).

I think that the left and right would push back on this idea. The left would be mad that they did not create a special path to citizenship to people who are American in every way other than on paper. The right would push back because even though it doesn't create a path to citizenship, it would allow them the opportunity to be legalized, something that they would be against (as exhibited by their anger at Obama because of the advanced parole loophole).

No, that would be a terrible idea. The Deferred Action is what allows individuals to hold work permits and technically be a low priority. It had a very specific intent and the Congress definitely will NOT make it a legal status, but remain simply legal presence.

Don't expect anything substantial to be done until after the midterms. Remember, even when Obama held office Gallup had the 115th Congress at a peak approval rating of 20%.

It's easy to forget how bad congress was when Trump entered office and all attention was focused on him.

These guys can't even deny a gun to people on the terrorist watch list.

Yeah so much so that they put that stupid age restriction. But then he got poked and poked about why he wasn't doing more for others and he came out with DAPA which screwed over older dreamers.

Yeah, they could have quietly removed the age limit but a lot of people thought a Democrat would be president forever so they'd heckle him at speeches asking why he wasn't doing more when he obviously could given what he did for DACA...

Anyway, no sense bringing up that ugliness lol.
