Speaker Paul Ryan: Dems are the reason there are no DACA protections in the spending

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Thursday that Democrats are the reason the spending bill does not include DACA protections.

“We said let’s do multiyear funding for the wall for multiyear relief for the DACA kids, and they walked away from that. They wouldn’t take that,” Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said on Fox News.

He said the House and Senate leaders, as well as President Trump, tried to negotiate with the Democrats on a three-year protection for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the program that protects children brought to the U.S. illegally. Republicans put funding for the border wall in the bill, but left out DACA since Democrats wanted to include a path to citizenship.

Mr. Ryan said overall the bill does everything Republicans promised to do during the 2016 election.

“This funds the wall, fixes the military, fights opioids, does the things that we said, and does not fund Gateway. This gives Donald Trump the decision on Gateway,” Mr Ryan said.

Gateway is the infrastructure project to rebuild the tunnel under the Hudson River connecting New York City to New Jersey. The bill does not allot funding specifically for the project, but as much as $541 million will be available for the project under the deal.

So basically, Ryan and his GOP colleagues just wants a band aid for DACA and don't want to give citizenship at all. They want DACAers to keep renewing for protection. Democrats wants citizenship in exchange for a 25 billion wall fund.

3 billions for 3 years is only more than fair. Asking for 25 billion for a 3 year extension is nuts!

I'll be more at peace with a house of democrat majority, do they use us? yes, but at least they don't suck up to the illiterate in the whitehouse.

I don't know about the rest of the dreamers but I wouldn't give them multiyear funding for wall for temporary relief. Ryan needs to stfu and retire already. He pretended to support DA all those year prior to becoming speaker of the house. He's just another failed Boehner with not backbone to stand up to the freedom caucus.

It’s crazy how freedom caucus, runs the show for GOP... Maybe Dems should learn something from them and if they would we would have green cards by now.

Agreed. Both parties are users but at least Democrats wants a permanent fix. It's unfortunate that there's not DACA fix in the Omnibus bill. Pelosi did say something about DACA will not get fix if GOP runs both houses and won't be deal th with until after the Nov. elections.

If that’s all that we can get then I’ll take the 3 year extension. We are in no way shape or form to not accept anything. I mean unless we can get something better ASAP then that’s better than nothing.

What would you give them to give you more time after the 3 years?

Ughhh what’s the difference between expiring in October 2020 or April 2020? Because of the renewals... those are the dates
