WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan on Thursday said he wants a bipartisan immigration bill to pass before November congressional elections that would address young illegal ‘Dreamer’ immigrants as well as security issues, and win U.S. President Donald Trump’s support.

“I want to fix this problem so I would like to have an immigration vote before the midterms,” Ryan told reporters at a news conference. His comments come a day after a breakaway group of House Republicans attempted to force action on legislation protecting so-called Dreamers from deportation.

Is this him caving to the idea that the discharge petition is going to pass?

Ryan on why he opposes the DACA discharge petition gambit: I don't want to spend all of our time passing bill I know will get vetoed...I don't want show ponies

Ryan insistent the DACA bill must be a bill which can be signed into law. But doesn't answer my question on why it's ok for the Hse to pass lots of other bills which don't became law yet holds DACA bill to a different standard

Today marks my fourth attempt to pass bipartisan legislation to extend DACA and fund border security. We can’t continue to ignore these issues

Speaker Ryan is not wrong when he says it will get vetoed.

any discharge petition bill that the potus doesnt support is vetoed on the spot. so there is really no point in doing a discharge petition.

If it includes border funding he will sign it. The same way he signed the Budget he didnt support.

Threat of DP is forcing Ryan to contemplate a bill

DP is not powerless

Just pass Usa Act ffs!

Do Daca/wall alone

Any other shit like tps, chainmig etc should wait their turn and not derail daca legalization

the spending bill passed both house and senate.

if there was some miracle a discharge petition passes the house with 218 votes do u think a similar border sec + daca will make past committee? and get 60 votes in the senate?

again, there is no discharge petition in the senate. Senate Majority leader would have to change the fillibuster rule and go nuclear with 51 votes to pass it? u think mcconnell will do that for an immigration bill?

Aren't they using a discharge petition in the Senate for net neutrality vote?
