We are here because our parents wanted to escape the same economical, social issues in our home countries that the people in the caravan are using as a reason to come to the US.

What's your take: should the caravan be let in?

We should discuss the larger issue of why can’t South American countries get it’s shit together. People are leaving because they don’t have a choice. Their lives are threatened by gangs and the counties are getting poorer. This won’t be the last caravan, more will come and Americans will be fed up at some point.

I don't like it.

We need a guest program for workers. Only for married people. Their family stays in their home country and their payment wired to them. That way their return is guaranteed.

South Americans mostly migrate to the USA the legal way. They usually go to nearby countries like Argentina, Brazil, or Chile if they choose to go the illegal route.

The primary exporter of this cavarn is Honduras, accompanied with some migrants coming from El Salvador and Guatemala which is considered the Northern Triangle of Central America.

The main reason why these countries are so messed up is because of US intervention. The US has literally been interfering with these countries for over a century. For instance, that 2009 coup in Honduras that was funded by the US government led to a world of political and violent chaos that forced Hondudan citizens to migrate elsewhere for a better life. Kind of like what happened when Regean funded right wing militas in El Salvador during the 1980s which led to a mass migration of Salvadorans that led to the formation of MS-13.

This wasn't a popular opinion on here 3 years ago when the unaccompnied kids were coming here asking for "Permiso" and it probably won't be popular now, but I'll express it anyway.

There is a big difference between those people coming here now with what they know about people like us than when your parents came here. If your parents came here in the 80's and ignored some laws, they probably had the 1986 amnesty law in the back of their mind and thought that sooner or later another amnesty would happen and in the meanwhile, the laws here were pretty lax and they could live without fear here. It was a different world.

Now it's been over 30 years without a single immigration law being passed that helps undocumented people and in fact, every single law that's been passed has made life harder and harder to the point now that it's unbearable for undocumented people who aren't lucky enough to have DACA. They've had the benefit of seeing how tough life is and how hopless it is to get status. They've been explicitly told not to come and if they come and apply for amnesty, they likely won't get it.

Not only that, DACA is being blamed for them coming here in an effort to convince those who are on the fence about the Dream Act that such laws only encourage new people to "invade" the country so not only are those people not going to get asylum, they are going to ruin any chance you might have to get the Dream Act or similar laws passed.

It's not hypocritical to want them to go back. They KNOW it won't work. They KNOW that life as an illegal is hell here. If 32 years ago we had this glass ball in front of us, do you think we would have stayed here? Hell no. There is always another way to live.

Accept only the ones that flee political violence or those whose life is in danger.

Mexico has offered them assylum already.

Mexico is not the greatest country but it is a step up. Life in the U.S isn't easy either.

I agree with IamAman.

I disagree with my parents decision to leave a decent life in Mexico under the illusion that the U.S was a place where one could make easy money.

They must go back.

Any illegal attempt to entry must be jailed and banned for life
