So the immigration doctor that is USCIS verified is not around because he is on vacation.

The receptionist said what kind of medical exam I need, I said for immigration.. she said it was okay to come in because the nurse practitioner is there. Is it safe to go?

The I-693 has to be filled out and signed by a designated civil surgeon. I don't think the Nurse Practitioner is allowed to do it unless they're a civil surgeon in their own right. Also, you do not need to submit I-693 at the time of filing I-485, in case of which you will receive an RFE later or a letter saying you have to bring it to the interview. Also medicals expire after 1 year so if I-485 processing time is around that or longer you might have to re-do it anyways.

So we don’t need to submit medical exam at the time of sending AOS packet? I thought you did. Please advice me. I will be sending my packet next month right after I get married. Thank you’!

I-693 is valid for 2 years now.

OP, the I-693 has to be signed by the civil surgeon. You can get it done but you just have to make sure he signs it when he gets back. Ask them how long it'll be. Since the I-693 is valid for 2 years, it would be advisable to send it in with your packet so you aren't rushing to get it done afterwards since I believe you have to turn it in within 60 days of getting it done or else it's not valid anymore.

That's awesome! I had to redo mine before and just wasted money again.

Anyone care to provide a quick list of what the exam entails? It is mainly a physical?

It's a physical test and blood work. They will check to make sure you don't have an STD, Tuberculosis, etc. and make sure you have all of your vaccines.

Wold an STD disqualify you from adjusting? Or do they just want it on the record?

I don't think so but it has to be treated. Also I read somewhere that there is a waiver for certain medical conditions.

The whole medical exam thing is a joke. I mean an "entrance exam" makes no sense for someone who's been here for decades. Also, the place we went to for our parent was pretty much a horse doctor. The "doctor" barely spoke any English and all they did was immigration exams. There were no real patients.
