Yup... a few years ago my mom tried to fix our situation, it was going well at first...she was paying the notary every so often for her help. Long story short: he didn't do his job right 'cause he's not a lawyer and doesn't know what he was doing, we lost all the $$ about 4,000 and we didnt' get our situation fixed.

So yes...watch out. Make sure you talk to a REAL lawyer whose dealt with immigration before.

This happens because in Mexico a notario is someone that has had to go through a process and they are a professional so they don't realize once here that a notary is just someone that went through probably 1 class and has the authority to sign documents and verify signatures. blah.

Its funny that here in Michigan a law was created less than 2 years ago to protect immigrants . the law makes it unlawful for notaries to give any legal advice or fill out any forms related to immigration etc. But yet this year they stop allowing us from getting a drivers license .

simple n plain dont go to anyone except a trustworthy immigration lawyer, not even a paralegal.
