The Trump administration will begin sending 100 border patrol officers to so-called sanctuary cities to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A senior official with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told NBC News that the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers were being deployed to work with ICE from February to May to “enhance integrity of the immigration system, protect public safety, and strengthen our national security.”

The decision to deploy the officers comes as Trump administration officials hammer sanctuary cities, which limit cooperation between local authorities

The decision can extend the scope of CBP’s enforcement authority. The agency typically detains people along the border and at other entrances into the country and has broad powers within 100 miles of a border. Meanwhile, ICE conducts immigration raids in non-border parts of the country.

A senior DHS official told NBC News that the cities targeted in the deployment were New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, New Orleans, Detroit and Newark, N.J.

I believe they have the authority to ask for your papers if they suspect you of being an illegal immigrant. That’s not good at all !

The New York Times had a good article about this that came out Yesterday...

“Even with the added show of force from BORTAC, agents will be limited in their abilities compared to the police or sheriff’s deputies. Unlike operations on the border, where BORTAC agents may engage in armed confrontations with drug-smuggling suspects using armored vehicles, immigration agents in cities are enforcing civil infractions rather than criminal ones. They are not allowed to forcibly enter properties in order to make arrests, and the presence of BORTAC agents, while helpful in boosting the number of agents on the ground, may prove most useful for the visual message it sends.”

It's all about creating fear in the immigrant communities, and vilifying all undocumented immigrants.

What a bummer for anyone in these cities. They now have CBP right inside the city. Not so much of a sanctuary anymore.

Not really sure why there are two agencies, CBP and ICE. Perhaps they should be merged.

They can still ask for your papers if you look or sound like an immigrant to them .

He and Miller (I'm guessing he's behind this) take pleasure out of creating fear in immigrant communities. I'm guessing they'll go after the low hanging fruit so the courts would be the logical place but everybody is a target.

Most logical place if I were trying to remove the undocumented would be to go to high undocumented sanctuary cities and look through the government records like drivers licenses.

Then go through the in state tuition assistance records for more undocumented.

They happily sign up and create a list of who they are. Same with DACA. We are now on a list somewhere.
