U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration plans to allow so-called ‘Dreamer’ immigrants to renew deportation protections for a year while it reviews a Supreme Court ruling, a senior administration official said on Tuesday.

The administration is preparing a fresh attempt to end the program that shields from deportation hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the United States illegally after entering as children - a group often called ‘Dreamers.’

The administration plans to continue its existing policy of not accepting new DACA applicants, a policy in place since 2017, the official told Reuters. But the administration will extend the eligibility by a year for those DACA immigrants whose protection from deportation was due to expire, as long as they do not have a criminal record, the official said.

“For anyone who refiles, if they are eligible and were set to expire, we will renew them on a case by case basis into the next year for an extension,” the official said.

The decision means the program will remain in place through the Nov. 3 presidential election, in which Trump is fighting for a second term against Democrat Joe Biden.

hahajaha 2Face is gonna be so happy. This action confirms everything coming out of Trump's mouth is BS.

Shame on me for believing such BS when he announced he will sign an EO to protect DACAers.

Looks like renewals are continuing, what are you talking about. DACA still in place.

He can't do that he has to follow court order so everything has to go back to pre 2017

@mjs_DC
Strongly disagree. They're not accepting new applications, and there's no "one more year" provision of the 2012 DACA memo which is currently still in place following the rescission. This just affirms that they ARE going to violate the court order.

@W7VOA
"It's not a new program, we've issued a new memo" about #DACA, explains the senior administration official.

@W7VOA
Asked if court challenges expected due to the new memo and not accepting new applications, the official replies: "Yes, of course."

Do they mean one more year of DACA on which we can renew for 2 more years or new EADs with one year validity ?
