Do we literally have to visit the DMV to renew our licenses every 1-2 years..?

Since it copies our EAD expiration, I need to renew it year by year compared to most people who would only do it every 5 years.

I heard that there is a way around this and that you can just request an online renewal instead of following in line again. If that's true, how? Or is this the only way...??

And I'm pretty sure we'll always also pay the renewal fee again... If this is the case, it doesn't make much sense.. Please help understand

Yes. Depends on DMV, e.g. NY, requires you to do this in-person. Not online, so please check your DMV website.

Yeah this sucks. For NY, the expiration is = the expiration date of your EAD card (and I believe this is true for all states but I could be wrong).

My friend actually got her for 5 years! How is this even possible?? Is anyone here under 5 years, if so, what did you do to make it like so?

Did you ask her her status, state and the type of license? Are you sure she's still DACA, holding a driver license not a state ID?

When Biden wins, it’ll change back to 2 years I’m sure.

Depends on the state and her status. Also, it may, or may not, be REAL ID compliant.

Meh, I had RealID with exp date that coincided with the EAD exp date. It was too much of a hassle (even more so now with the 1-year EAD) so I switched it back to the good ol' 8-year FakeID license.

I’m in FL and we have to do it in person whenever EAD expires . Before we had to renew every year even if the ead was for 2 years .
