How covid-19 wrecked my DACA status, stopping me from working as an ER doctor

DACA doctor doesn't have his EAD renewed in time. Is anyone here really comfortable in applying for a renewal only 3 months before expiration?

"Yet no matter how busy or distracted people with DACA status might be, the need to maintain eligibility for the program is never far from our thoughts — everything we’ve worked for hinges on it. DHS processing of DACA renewal applications in the past took, on average, 1.3 months, but I liked to file three months in advance, just to be sure.

I filed for the two-year renewal and work authorization in April, well ahead of their July expiration. In June, I relocated to New York City, where I had been accepted into an emergency medicine post-graduate residency program. I worked for a month — with mounting alarm, as the expiration of my DACA status and work permit approached.

And then they did expire. Per DACA requirements, I have been placed on an unpaid leave of absence, unable to care for patients. It turns out that because the pandemic caused long shutdowns of many government offices, DHS has fallen far behind in processing DACA renewal applications: It can take up to 5.5 months for the agency to approve eligibility that lasts just two years."

Holy shit…send that shit around 5 months before expiration . As soon as you hit the 150 day before expiration mark.

That is an issue we all face. I have had daca since the start and have lost well over 3 year in time by applying early. You have to plan ahead and be willing to lose time. For example, I expired dec 2021 and sent my application in June. I was approved July so I lost a boat load of time.

I often see people gambling with time in hopes that they are approved so they retain the most possible. I don't play that game. I'll send my next, and hopefully last, well in advance.

Has anybody sent theirs earlier than 150 days before expiration under Biden Administration?

The Biden admin really needs to front load resources into USCIS. What the hell? They get like $500 a pop from each renewal.

It’s so strange how this all works. I’ve had daca since day one. I always gamble by sending in a month prior of it expiring and EVERY TIME, even during the pandemic when I last renewed I get approved about 2 weeks after I send everything in. I’ve always wondered about racial profiling.

Mine got renewed quickly as well. Maybe a change in address triggered the delay, they needed to updated info manually.

It's like Javier said in the approvals thread... they toss all the renewals into a big cart and the employees just randomly pick out renewal packages to review at random. A close your eyes, reach in, and grab one situation. Jackasses. LOL.
