WASHINGTON — Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin came out against a $3.5 trillion budget bill on Thursday, throwing cold water on one of President Joe Biden's top legislative ambitions.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal opinion section, the West Virginian called on his party to hit "a strategic pause" on the legislation, rejecting the idea of "artificial political deadlines" to advance it.

"I, for one, won’t support a $3.5 trillion bill, or anywhere near that level of additional spending, without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects inflation and debt have on existing government programs," Manchin wrote

he was never a yes vote to begin with so no changes here. Why can't they just drop the price tag and pass this shit...

This in-fighting happened when obama was in office and look where that got us. Why can't Dems see they need a major W after the ass-whooping the pass couple of month in the news and media.

If Manchin indeed refuses to negotiate on the 3.5 trillion, he’s also likely going to sink the bipartisan infrastructure bill in the House — several members have said they aren’t voting for one without the other.

Gonna take some creative negotiating from Biden and Schumer.

Nice!

I wanna think they always meant a 2.5 trillion budget but announced it as 3.5 trillion proposal so they get room to budge and negotiate.

I'm tired of this bull shit.

Just wait till (if) they add immigration to it. The R's will start screaming amnesty, border crisis, and fear monger using Afghanistan refugee nonsense. This will sway the moderates. Things are not looking good for Biden and Dems in general and Rs are goign to take advantage of that, amplify, and take to to midterms.

We don't even know how the parliamentarian will rule on the Byrd.

SCOTUS is pumping out BS backwards decisions thanks to the lovely additions by Trump (MAGA DACA trio, where you at?). So if nothing happens via legislation for us and DACA goes to SCOTUS eventually... yeah.

We're toast.
