So my gf knows that I am on DACA. However I don't think she is well aware of all the limitations of this status including the inability to freely leave the country and I haven't had the chance to explicitly make this clear to her.

She kept saying how she's looking forward to traveling again post-Covid (not sure if she meant with or without me). Knowing that she is the type of person who often has catastrophic thinking, I didn't want this to become a hindrance to our relationship at this relative early stage.

For now, I can use Covid as cover to avoid this topic but it's bound to come up when things start going back to normal. Would you guys make a big deal out of this or do you think most people would not mind their partner's inability to travel internationally?

People who don’t have DACA will never understand DACA. Explain it to her now and maybe she’ll stop trying to make these plans in your face knowing you probably can’t go.

Unless you apply for Advance Parole.

I don’t know about others but to me personally the ability to travel has been so liberating. When I travel is the only time I feel free and able.

It's person to person whether international travel is important. There's American Citizens that never leave their state, and there's those that constantly travel. I would hold off telling her until things get more serious or she brings up booking a plane flight for the two of you. As there are plenty of beautiful places to visit in the United States, I think it silly to be a deal breaker (and if you end up marrying her and getting a green card then eventually international travel will be possible).

You should explain this to her immediately. Maybe she will understand it and be fine with it. When you love someone, I don't think you'd care about any of this....

You can also encourage her to travel internationally with friends, and travel with you domestically.
