Hey everyone,

I'm getting married! I'm curious to hear from DACA recipients that have gotten married to a citizen and what the process is in regards to becoming a resident, obtaining green card, etc. I just would like to know experiences from others and also be open to advice and suggestions. I am clueless right now as to what exactly the process would be or is. For example, should I apply for AP? I don't even know where I'd start besides getting a lawyer first.

Mazel tov! Get a lawyer. There are so many factors like how you entered the country, removal orders, etc. etc.

Talk to a lawyer immediately! You might be able to get some things done before you're even married like filing for AP, or simply gathering documents.

My wife and I filed all our documents immediately after we got married.

I would definitely let the lawyers handle it, I tried to do it myself but its a lot of paper work, maybe you can do it if you're not working or going to school.

get a lawyer as everyone suggested. My friend got married, and petitioned the following year. He told me he was allowed to have his green card for only two years, and needed to renew it because if you are married for less than 5 years before you petition, your green card will be for two years, then you have to renew to get the 10 year green card. they do that to make sure the marriage is legit

that is conditional greencard if you are married for less than 2 years at the time of your interview.

Given the slow process time now, most people will hit the 2 year mark by the time they have their interview. If you have to do a waiver, that alone take close to 1.5 year.

not true. My friend got married, and they petition the next month. Within 3 months he got his interview, and got his green card the following 2 weeks. This is right before the pandemic though, so maybe the pandemic has slowed things down.

Makes me want to get married too to fix my papers ha
