I've never had medical insurance so I've tried to live a healthy lifestyle...or so I thought. I took my first blood test as an adult and holy shit it was a wake-up call. Cholesterol through the roof (216), A1C 6.3 even though I don't drink sugary drinks. I think the cholesterol is probably because I got a big-ass thing of cheese from Costco so I put it on everything from eggs to sandwiches. That along with steak seared with butter explains the cholesterol. Also I've been really really stressed lately so I've got more ice cream, rice, fancy breads, etc. so that explains the sugar.

The absolute last thing I need as an undocumented person without insurance is to clog up my arteries and need to get a stent put in or something. Soooo despite all the personal shit I'm dealing with along with all the legal shit going on, I'm putting my foot down and cutting out red meat, cheese, and other stuff and only eating them as a once in a long while treat.

I'm sure a lot of you are stressed out about DACA (although you should try living without to see what real stress is!) and might not be taking care of your body but don't go that route. I like your body so you should too!

Late 40's Dreamer (Holy Fucking shit I'm almost 50 and still dealing with this), aged out of original DACA and didn't have a chance to apply for extended DACA after Republicans killed it on the vine.

I have high cholesterol too from my last annual test. It is what it is. I don’t care for a long life. Just want to accomplish my goals.

Take ashwaghanda. It helps with stress and it will reduce your blood cholesterol and triglycerides. My total cholesterol is at 107 mg/dl (HDL 52 mg/dl, VLDL 16 mg/dl, and LDL 39 mg/dl), Triglycerides 82 mg/dl.
