Schumer joined NBC News’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, where he was asked about potential areas in which Democrats could work with Trump and his next administration, particularly as the president-elect plans to crack down on immigration.

Despite Trump’s wide deportation plans, he’s expressed interest in allowing DACA recipients, also known as Dreamers, to remain in the country.

“Well, we’d love to do that,” Schumer said Sunday. “Our party has been strongly fighting for the Dreamers for a decade.”

Both Trump and Schumer are liars.

With each new Congress and each new administration, they propose to "work"on helping as few people as possible. This is so they can continue to exploit workers - see current H1B drama.

If they want to reduce some immigration, then the trade off should be that people who have lived here for a long time have access to legalize their status.

It is in the Dems best interest to help Republicans fix asylum laws and improve border security so the border cannot be used against them in the next election... Hopefully, they realized the party needs a change in position and agree to stricter border and immigration changes in exchange for a dreamer deal.

I think a major hurdle will be if Trump asks to end birthright citizenship in exchange for Dreamers...

Firstly, it is the NATION's interests to legalize long-term undocumented immigrants. For food security, healthcare security, biomedical advancement, etc.

Secondly, the Dems will LOSE a lot more Hispanic voters and support if they do not help those who have lived here for decades with a legalization program. We already know this happened with the 2024 election. Most unauthorized immigrants in the United States have lived there for more than 10–15 years. These immigrants worked their butts off, helped revitalize towns, neighborhoods, etc. Increased demand for goods improving economic activity. They did not receive free services.

At anytime in the last 15 years they could've brought up DACA for Wall and gotten it through.

Keep UWD out and I'm sure a lot of compromises that will benefit good/hard working immigrants will pass. Those big time mafia immigrant groups are the worst enemy of good immigrants who are looking to get legalized and get into the system. They will do their level best to spread fear amongst the community to prevent anything from passing because that is good for their business. Dems should grow a spine and reject those bastards. They have no choice now. They keep losing the white house because of their status quo philosophy. Immediate compromise to legalize all undocumented minus criminals and strong border security!
