The Senate on Monday passed the Laken Riley Act, setting the immigration crackdown bill for a vote in the House later this week.

The Senate passed two amendments to the bill over the past week, including one Monday night before the vote.

One brought by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.) requires ICE to detain undocumented immigrants who attack law enforcement.
Another brought by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) adds those who commit crimes resulting in death or bodily injury.

Him wanting republicans didn't actually make republicans come in power.... the fact is that big time immigrant "advocate" groups are going to do their level best to make sure nothing that even remotely benefits dreamers/the non-criminal undocumented passes because that would cause an existential threat to themselves...they need this status quo and fear to continue to ensure BIG donations..it is their business model...

Whenever something is proposed, they will come out saying "Immediate citizenship for all"...that way the immigrant community will think they are fighting hard and it will kill the existing efforts for compromise...two birds with one stone....SMH.

Still, I will maintain that DACA just existing with all of its caveats (2 year renewals, needing to make up a reason for international travel, etc) beats out the alternative. The republican alternative isn't "give us all the money in the world for walls at the borders in exchange for the dream act", republican alternative is "deport them all". Now, I doubt many of you will get actually put on a plane and sent back, instead what you'll see is just making your lives get more miserable: No more EADs so you're back to either working under the table or with fake documents, and no more driver's licenses. For the states that offer them they'll likely just force them to use the Real ID versions for federal purposes.
