WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The United States Border Patrol arrested a man who was allegedly attempting to smuggle migrants.

According to a news release from the U.S. Border Patrol, at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, agents attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Fiat near McColl Road in Hidalgo.

When the vehicle failed to yield, they released a vehicle immobilization device that caused the car to come to a complete stop.

Agents found two women and two men, who were Mexican nationals, inside the vehicle.

Agents say the man was a Mexican citizen with DACA status. The suspect will be charged with bringing in and harboring migrants, the release added.

The suspect’s DACA status can be revoked for criminal activity.

This article is misleading and we need more context. It is important to note that anyone on DACA can be arrested for driving with someone undocumented, whether they are friends or family members.

If you come across a border patrol agent on the road and they stop you, they have the authority to charge you for bringing in and harboring migrants, even if that is not the case. It is important to clarify that this is not a new law implemented by President Trump, but rather a practice that has been in place since the previous administration.

I had a friend who is a US citizen. She gave her undocumented friend a ride to Los Angeles, and they encountered a checkpoint. They tried to charge her with smuggling charges, even though that was not the case. Mind you, this occurred during the Obama presidency.

It is important to note that immigration has jurisdiction within 100 miles of the border, including coastal areas. It is advisable to also review local State laws as they may impact you. Also, make a conscious effort to minimize driving with individuals who are undocumented, as this situation could potentially affect any one of us.

Fiat tried to come back to the states, but they are crashing and going bankrupt in the states. Nobody wants such a tiny car. Now without dealer support parts are going to become scarce. All in all its a bad vehicle.

I think his choice of a car is proof he wasn't smuggling anyone since its hard to hide anything.

Very true, they are going to try to claim he was smuggling someone but they were probably just traveling as family/friends.

The worst part is that [faux news, OAN, and newsmax] all trash tabloid-esque medias are going to try to go "SEE! They are SMUGGLERS and DRUG RUNNERS! and probably TERRORISTS TOO!"

He probably got spooked by the checkpoint and in a spur-of-the moment thing , tried to drive away (probably a fight-or-flight type of thing) and that's what got him. The harboring aliens charge is pure BS. Smuggling a few people on a small, cramped Fiat car?! Laughable.

However, he's still in trouble for trying to avoid the BP checkpoint and I don't think he can get away from that charge.

Anyhow, I'm not really laughing at this shit because that's the lot of our life right there. When I look at that , that can be me.

One minor screw-up , one single moment of bad decision-making and we are all toast.

Meanwhile, at my job, I see thousands of U.S born mothafuckas catching stupid charges all the time and there's thousands of diversionary programs and probations that they can do to deal with their bullshit and not go to jail.

life =/= fair

This looks so close to border. If he was actually smuggling then can’t get any stupider.
