Apparently they were eligible for naturalization at 19 and didn't ever. Until you cross the line to citizen you have to behave and even afterwards, you have to behave because employers want people without records, not even an arrest. Also, arrests can hurt your chances of going to college. Unfortunately for her immigration law is very strict on crime.

Its very unfortunate, but unfortunately they were caught in this way at the worst possible time. I definitely think that each 10 year period should check for your criminal record and so long as you aren't a repeat offender and you show a pattern of good behavior you should be fine. Especially for this misdemeanor. I think we as DACA get 3 misdemeanors but its always at the officer's decision.

Very very unfortunate, saw another case where someone accidentally voted while being a green card holder and ended up in deportation proceedings back to Peru after decades of being a permanent resident. I guess make sure you know what you are allowed to do at all times?

Bruh some ppl are flat out stupid.

How do you accidentally vote?! You have to register to vote in your electoral precinct, you gotta go to a voting booth , etc.
It's a whole process.
How can you not stop yourself in the middle of this process and think "I has greencarr, I no American. I no vote?!"

wtfffffff

I could see the scenario of a young Dreamer who's been lied to and gaslighted of his status by his family and doing that... but otherwise, it's an improbable situation

There's a lot of dumb people. They a lot of older Hispanics don't naturalize because they feel every don't need it. GC is good enough for them and it's effort and expense they don't bother with. Though in my opinion it's the most important part.

Friend of mine, their dad had convictions on their record as a gc holder, so they can't naturalize. Idk the full details didn't bother asking him for more.

This is the credited response.

I had a stupid aunt who sat on a GC for 20+ yrs because she kept failing the test. She passed the test when she became a Senior citizen and was allowed to take the test in her native language.

Dumb as a rock but very good at instigating family intrigues.

I can't say in this particular case, but in some countries you do lose your home country's citizenship when US citizenship is acquired technically.

Still, I would question if DACA maybe around much longer considering the administration is dismantling many of the temporary programs.

HUD’s revised residency requirements for FHA-backed loans, which take effect on May 25, will apply to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients as well as individuals who are pending asylum or pending refugee status, according to HUD, since there is no guarantee that their residency status will be renewed under the current administration.

There is no guarantee you won’t be hit by a bus tomorrow.

Guess what DACA is still renewing.

Sure seems like the government is considering us illegal immigrants still rather than a special daca population. But if they dislike us so much why haven't they taken adverse action. There's also the other way to spin this, make us look independent and tough and self reliant with these articles as receipts.

Lol oh well. Any daca with money to buy a house likely won't be deterred and will still do it anyway. Just like I pulled through and won against the system and their Out of state tuition rates.
