I found this website trying to figure out whether or not AB540 students were able to work within the school. If anyone knows the answer to that please post it here. Anyways, I'm really glad I found this community of people just like me.

My mother, older sister and I came to this country when I was 10 years old as a way to a scape from an alcoholic and abusive dad. Both me and my sister have always been good students, and came to be in the top 10% of our class, sadly my sister saw no chance in her attending college, as it was way to much for a single mother to afford. My sister finished high school and decided to go back to Mexico, and is doing great over there, but thats another story. Two years after my sister left it was my turn to make the decision, work hard and try to pay my college expenses with scholarships, or give up and find a job. Well lets just say that two days ago was my first day in the University of California *. I walked out of high school with $26,000 in scholarships for my first year in UC. The hardest part is realizing that all that hard work was only for the first year, it will have to be done again again and again, unless the Dream Act goes through. I don't understand why we should be punished for wanting to educate ourselves because of our parents decisions. Like many of you I fear what will come next after I graduate and no longer be a AB540 student. I consider myself a U.S. citizen, as I know more about this country than about the one I left, and because I have dedicated my high school career to improving my community through community organizing, and wish to dedicate my life into shaping public policy for bettering life in this county. My name is Rafael S., and I'm a double-major in the University of California *

holy crap 26k full ride scholarship??? That's freaking unheard of unless you are on an athletic scholarship. That is really inspiring, all high school illegals should hear about stuff like that and get motivated to study hard.

you must be brilliant!!! double major? Actually, I think I heard about a girl in my school getting almost a full ride to davis... Anyway welcome to DAP, I live in Cali too and also came to the states around 10 years old .

Where in CA are you guys at?

Welcome, but,

I had to edit your post since you basically handed out your location/personal information for ALL to see, including many vicious anti-immigrant activists who visit this site.

I'm going to talk to the site admin about changing your login name also...

FYI, just be really careful about what kind of sensitive information you give out on a PUBLIC site, that attracts people who want to deport us without even blinking.
