Finally, I joined the DAP! Whoo!

It's just unfortunate that the ONLY thing that seperates me from United States Citizens, is the fact that I can't get a license to drive and I can't leave the country. Well, I mean, technically I CAN, but you know, won't be able to come back. Lame. I was brought into this country at the age of 2. So practically, like the many of you here, I was raised here. The U.S is all I know. I know that my family is from Zamora Michoacan, Mexico, but that's all. I've been working my behind in school (now in College, community mind you and proud) and I don't want to one day have someone tell me "Oh, you've been here since you were 2? Mmm, so sad. To bad. Now get the **** out!"

I plan to pursue a study in the Romance Languages, but unless the DREAM Act passes, paying for University will a struggle. Only if I get a $70,000 will I not have to worry about paying. But then, what about after? I don't want my life after getting my Masters, and Doctorate (did I skip PhD? Woops) to come to a stand still because I can't get a job thanks to not having a SSN or work permit. But, I don't give up. Trying to my hardest to get good grades and all so that people can SEE we're here to really, have a better life. We're not out doing crimes, drugs, etc. We're here to study and do what will benefit us in the future.

Oh, jeez, forgot: My name is Jose. But, yeah, can call me "jimminy" or "jimmz" or "joseph" wichever.

welcome
for the longest time i was very reluctant to attend the county college cause i thought of it as the place where all the "rejects" go. My pride was my downfall. I wasted a year struggling to pay for a state college that i couldn't really afford. I have seen the light though. I want an education even if it's only the county college.

Thanks!

Yeah, everybody thinks going to Comm. College is for "rejects" or "dumb" people. But I mean, seriously, if you go to Comm. College youre taking the same general courses as at a Uni. But MUCH, MUCH cheaper. And as soon as you transfer, you have your General Ed done and you head right into your major So, yeah, who the dumb one's be? Jijijijiji.....

I am asian... Korean to be specific. Plus I come from practically all Asian school where community college is for retards.

1. Yes, community college is for retards. My community college is suppose to be the best cc in the nation and it was easier than my high school, I have 4.0 gpa, oppose to 3.7 in high school.

2. Yes, we have to go, it's cheap

My stupid sister couldn't stand the shame so she went to UC irvine. Now my parents are 30 grands in debt and we still got 3 more years :0!!!!

I shall call you Jimmz.
Welcome!

You guys are freaking me out with the college stuff!
I'm a junior in h.s., and I'm gonna be applying to schools next year.
I'm known at school as one of the smart AP/Honors kid with the 4.0+ GPA who's gunning for the valedictorian title.

Everyone's expecting me to go to somewhere Ivy League-y, and I admit that I'd be embarrassed if, at graduation, they announce that I'm going to my cc when all my other AP/Honors friends are going to Harvard, Brown, Stanford, etc.

It's my stupid Asian pride.

first. Dont freak out. Breathe.
Second. Apply to your ivy league-y colleges. I did the same. Get accepted. At graduation, just write down the school that you got accepted at as the school you're going to.
third. Go to CC if you can't afford the other colleges. Seriously...do it.
when your friends ask what happened just blame it on financial trouble. They will understand. If they don't, screw them. You won't see them every day anymore and it really doesn't matter.

If youre in Cali, check out santa clara U. My sister was valedictorian at her HS and she got a full ride (all 4 years, room n board food, books ect.) at SC university.
Best part? she got a scholarship designed to help outsanding students who happen to be undocumented through no fault of their own. Ofcourse its a competitive scholarship but i doesnt hurt to try.

plus ive heard ivy league schools have similar programs

Good Luck!

don't give up yet, that's what I did in high school. Dream might still be a possibility for you next year. But even if Dream doesn't pass, there is a chance with your high gpa that you can get a full ride or a lot of scholarship. It is rare to be honest but there has been members here on this website who got a lot of scholarship and made it through universities.

oh the asian pride thing... It will gnaw at you for about a year or so and die out, don't worry.
