I guess it is looking more & more likely that Democrats could be getting 60 Senate seats.

Anyway, the Senator from Alaska has been found guilty of lying about contract gifts & could face some time in prison. The article suggest though it is likely that he may not.
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Guilty. That's the verdict in Sen. Ted Stevens' corruption trial.

The Alaska Republican showed no emotion as the jury foreman read the word seven times over, once for each count. The 84-year-old senator was convicted of lying about free home renovations and other gifts from a wealth oil contractor. The monthlong trial revealed that employees of the oil services company VECO transformed Stevens' modest mountain cabin into a modern, two-story home with wraparound porches, a sauna and a wine cellar.

Stevens claimed he had no idea he was getting anything for free, saying he paid $160,000 and thought that covered everything.

Stevens now faces up to five years in prison on each count. But under federal guidelines, he is likely to receive much less prison time, if any.

The verdict comes barely a week before Election Day, when Alaska voters will decide on Stevens' political future.

He could still be elected, and then it's up to the senate if it will expel him if he manages to win the state election.

Is there a special election then? Doesn't Palin get to appoint his replacement? I am lost and feeling too lazy to look it up.

Sen. Stevens is still quite popular in his home state despite this mess.He isn't the longest serving Republican Senator for nothing.

uh-oh...

someone and someone else needs a new pseudonym if they dont want to be a 'criminal' alien for real

:P

Democrat Mark Begich, the mayor of Anchorage, is statistically tied with Republican Ted Stevens 46 percent to 45 percent in an Ivan Moore poll Oct. 17-19.

The verdict could tip this election

Possible Bush pardon?

From the NYT

Quote:
In addition to his expected appeal, his supporters are also likely to explore the possibility of obtaining a pardon, or some form of executive clemency like a commutation of any sentence, from President Bush, a fellow Republican, before he leaves office.

I dont care how old he is. He is an illiterate scum. I hope he serves prison time...even though we all know he wont. He'll live out rest of his life on his 2 story mansion build by oil companies and shoot moose and wolves from his wrap around porch.

best video ever.....

They should take his pension away as well... but they won’t. This guy is a hypocrite. He wants to keep punishing us for a 'crime' we did not commit while he weasels his way out of a crime he did commit.
