That's awesome. He's such a good speaker. This is encouraging. Lets hope he keeps his word by spreading the word ourselves.

really good video. i have faith in Obama i just hope he hasn't forgotten about us...

I have a quick question about DREAM for anyone who knows.
I've heard that a requirement is that a person must have been in the US for 5 years.
but then i hear in other places that a person must have had finished at least 2 years of college in the US to be eligible.
which is the correct requirement?

5 Years to qualify for DREAM to get your Conditional PR status. Then you have 6 years to get either on Associates, 2 years towards a Bachelor's, or 2 years in the military to get the conditional status lifted. At the end of the 6 years if you haven't done any of those, you go back to being undocumented. As soon as you finish one of those listed (within 6 years) you are just a normal PR, no conditions. However, if you already have a degree the bill says you still have to do 2 years of conditional anyways before applying to have those conditions lifted.

okay let me see if i get it..

i have been here since i was 9 years old and i've done 5th grade til 12th grade and a year and a half of college. if it was to be implemented right now i would just be eligible for a PR status?
and then once i finish my first 2 years of college (which is one more semester) then i would get my status lifted?

Not quite... to qualify for DREAM you need to be in the country for at least 5 years, came here before turning 16 and have graduated from high school or obtained a GED. Since you have been here since you were 9, and have lived here for more than 5 years, and finished high school you are eligible for DREAM, which means when it passes you will receive conditional residency.

Now you have 6 years to complete 2 years of college or 2 years of military service. After 6 years and after completing the requirements (college or military) your conditional status is lifted and you will become a permanent resident.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think even if you have completed at least 2 years of college by the time Dream passes, you still have to wait out the six years to get your conditional residency turned into permanent residency. If this is correct, dream3320, you will need to wait 6 years in order to become a permanent resident even if you did complete the college requirement.

Basically what YGAA said except I'm not sure that if you already have a degree or already fulfilled your 2 years in college before DREAM passes, once it passes you still might need to wait the 6 years to become a PR. Even if that is true, you will still have the conditional residency which will allow you to work, drive, travel (for a limited amount of time... I think that's the biggest restriction of CR), etc.

I thought it was okay as long as you have at least 2 years of college education by the time it's enacted...?
So people with degrees would have to do 2 more years of studying just to qualify?
Eek, confusing.

^You're fine as long as you are working towards completing two years of school/military service or if you have already completed two years of school (military service is impossible in our current status).

No need for confusion: if you have finished two or more years of post-secondary schooling, you are eligible for DREAM (provided you've been here for at least five years and you entered before the age of 16) but you will have conditional residency for six years before the conditions are lifted and then you can proceed to PR status. If you are graduating high school or if you will just be getting into college after DREAM passes, you will have six years to get two years of post-secondary school done. You will have conditional status during this time.
