Almost six years since I graduated. I'm 22 now and I'm very afraid for my future. I came to the U.S. when I was 13 from Venezuela.

I suppose there must be people with a similar length of time waiting for "something" as I have been, but the truth is that not only have we been denied of a future but have also been segregated and detached from society. At least that's my case.

All my friends went on to study and sooner or later I lost touch with them, now I feel ashamed to see them already graduated and starting their lives when I'm still unemployed or working for minimum wage. I have no friends of my age and I blame it on the abrupt cut-off many of us have experienced after high school.

People are surprised to learn it's been so long and I haven't done anything about my status. I didn't want to marry any citizen for my papers only, I was going to marry my girlfriend who was about to become a citizen because we had been together since high school, but things took a very ironic turn and it didn't happen.

I just found out CoSa is no more, I used to be a member there although I posted very little. I'm very out of the loop regarding the Dream Act and I plan to join this community and possibly meet people in a similar situation to mine.

I've been reading some of the other introductions, seems like I'm reading my story over and over again. I think I'm going to like it here!

Hey, welcome to DAP!

What state do you live in? A lot of us here are still able to attend college regardless of our situation. However, tuition fees depend on the state or school you plan to go to. For example, people in CA are able to attend school paying in-state tuition thanks to AB540. While I, in PA, pay international fees (although it might depend on the school).

And I know how you feel about not having friends your age. The only people I know are 18 or 19 since I go to a community college (I'm 21), lol. Please, get informed about the DREAM Act. 2009 is looking very promising and we need all the help we can get to make it happen. So, stay and participate

I see you live in Orlando...theres a few dreamies who live there too, including myself.
So if you wanna hang out or whatever pm, so you dont feel lonely lol.

And if you are interested in going to college, Seminole CC is the closest to you i think...but its like 800/credit.

Welcome!

We all have pretty similiar situations we're in. The waiting can get hard at times, but hopefully it'll be over soon.

I'm from orlando as well, and the closest college would either be, as Ayame said, Seminole CC, or Valencia CC. I go to Seminole and they charge about 280/credit (out of state of course) whereas Valencia is around 300/credit. I don't really know much about Valencia but if you want any info about Seminole such as who to see if you wanted to register and whatnot, just give me a quick pm.

See you around!
