Hi Lonedreamer and CONGRATULATIONS!! on the your first post!

Now my awnser to your question is:

Military would be my second choice but if for some God forsaken reason I have to go I will put myself in "military mode" and go on and take care of my business.

Nope. I just can't take part in an unjust war which brings nothing but pain and suffering to innocent civilians making even more people hate US and subsequently giving birth to even more terrorism. I only wish people could pick and choose where and how their tax dollars are being spent, but good luck trying to get something like that passed.

Less than 10% of the U.S. population has served in the military. The number will be 30-60% for DREAMers. That is why many liberal groups won't support DREAM.

Had DREAM passed earlier, I might have joined. I think several other people on here feel the same way. For the older dreamers such as the ones on this board, it's an unrealistic goal. Most of us took out private loans for undergrad or graduate school and if I'm not mistaken, you can't defer private loans to join the military. Bankruptcy isn't much of an option. If I was 18 and debt free, then yes.

i've gone to community college for two years and transferred to 4 year university... i am already qualified for that matter and there is technically no point of me joining the military but... i AM going to join the military regardless. why? MONEY. do you know how much pay you get and how much benefit you get??? especially with the newly introduced post 9/11 GI BILL? 2 years of service pays you 80% of university intuition and 80% of housing. 3 years of service pays you full 100% also, they expedite the process to get citizenship if you serve overseas for a year... so two years mandatory for greencard with extra year overseas toward citizenship...? 3 years of service for full 100% school and housing benefit with possibly even faster process toward citizenship... i dont know if it will help us dreamers since we will have temporary greencard but regardless, pay and benefit itself seems like a good option. by serving the country not only will you have cash in your pocket i will personally feel that i have done something and earned my right to get a green card or perhaps even citizenship someday.
but than again this is coming from a korean guy who HAS to serve two years in the korean military (if i end up back in korea) two years of service in the u.s. military with tons of pay and benefit seems a lot better than forced mandatory service with barely $100 a month of pay from korean military
