Look, I know Gov Paterson is blind and everything, but is he also stupid? This woman has no place representing the very liberal state of New York in the Senate and from what I've read she's pretty much one of those people who think that anything that comes close to adjusting the status of the undocumented is "amnesty".

She comes from one of the most conservative districts of the state (which apparently voted for Bush -- twice) and will probably join the so-called "blue dogs" which is code for we're-democrats-but-we-still-wish-Barack-were-a-little-lighter-oh-yeah-and-we-don't-like-burritos.

And how is she supposed to hold on to her seat after the 2010 elections when even Bloomberg has a more liberal record. Not to mention that she's not even well known or SNL-friendly(her hips are too big, sorry).

End of rant.

LOL, i feel you. The governor is a major asshole and is only worried about his re-election. I just read her stance on immigration on her website and nearly got depressed after reading it. Looks like she a definite no when it comes to dream or CIR. Unless, schumer and other dems can convince her to change.

Quote:

Our immigration system is broken and hard-working Americans often bear the brunt of the federal government’s failure to secure our borders and provide adequate protections for the American worker and the shrinking American Middle Class. I believe the first step to fixing our immigration system is to stop the flow of illegal immigration. This can be accomplished by securing the Southern border(What about the canadian border?), enforcing the employment laws on the books and ensuring that our farmers and businesses have the adequate number of legal workers after they have exhausted their search for American workers. I am firmly against providing amnesty to illegal immigrants. In my first year in Congress, I passed legislation on the floor of the House of Representatives that would bar employers, who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, from receiving federal contracts.
In addition, I am a sponsor of the SAVE Act, which will hire 8,000 new Customs and Border Patrol agents, while utilizing new technology and fencing along the border. I have also sponsored the Legal Employee Verification Act, which would require all employers to verify, through the Social Security Administration, that their employees are legal. In addition,
I support reforming and streamlining the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) so that the extraordinary casework backlog will be addressed within two years. This is especially important for the thousands of farmers in our district who need legal workers. I am confident that Congress can enact reform without providing amnesty to illegal immigrants. This is a national and economic security issue for our country and I am committed to fighting for the American worker

Very nicely said. I really want to know what the hell is he smoking? Maybe she is sleeping with him to get the seat. Who Knows? I have a theory. I think he can't see for shit, he doesn't realizes majority voter in the state are immigrant especially NYC people whom she is against. He still stuck in 70's and 80's time when he probably could see.

She will come around after she talks with leader Reid and Durbin, and other big wick democratic senators.

I am hoping that Senator Schumer will be able to change her opinion on immigration, after all, he is very liberal. But yeah, it's a very odd choice, considering that most of New York State is liberal, and they pick a woman representing the conservatives who are in the minority.

And Patterson will never win the re-election because no one in NYS likes him. He wouldn't have have gotten this position if the Spitz didn't screw up so..he should be more grateful.

Or he should just let Mayor Bloomberg become the Emperor of NYS like he should be.

New York Immigration Coalition, which just sent over the following statement from its executive director, Chung-Wha Hong:
Now that she will be representing a far broader and more diverse constituency, Senator-Designee Gillibrand must reconsider her positions on immigration.

During her tenure in the House, Representative Gillibrand took positions on immigration that are deeply troubling, to say the least. She sponsored legislation that sought to require local police officers to take on immigration enforcement duties, even though police chiefs have testified it would impair their ability to protect the public. She strongly supported throwing more resources toward ineffective border enforcement, but appeared to oppose any path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. Simply put, these are positions that put her at odds with the majority of New Yorkers, whose values reflect our state’s history of welcoming immigrants, as well as with President Barack Obama, who supports a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.
Her official gov website has been taken down also, im curious to see what she has to say about immigration when the senate site goes up.

What on earth did the Governor thinking? Simply depressed and confused. She even should not be a congresswoman after all.
