So much for them possibly changing their ways.

"In the first test of the Republican Party’s new Latino outreach strategy, GOP leaders are reaching for their old talking points. As reported by National Public Radio today, Ensign and other Republicans are voicing strong opposition to provisions in the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) bill that would allow legal immigrant children to access health care without a five year waiting period. As Ensign put it: “It would seem to me that we are giving more incentives for folks to come to the United States, not just to participate in the American dream, but to get on the government dole. And I think this is exactly the wrong direction we should be going with this legislation.”

I myself have never heard of this bill, but if it is the way that they're stating. Idk if I agree with it either. People will come in to the States just to give their children that government aid, And it will make us look bad.

I think all the GOP member need to check their brain. People don't come to this country to get free heathcare or anything in that mater. Only reason they come to work and feed their family and seek a better life. If that is a crime then all the immigrant are criminal including parents and grand parents of GOP members.

So, why should we let a child born in the US, even though that child's parents may have arrived 2 minutes ago, have automatic health care benefits, but make a child who came into the US as a permanent resident have to wait five years for health care benefits?

Actually, I have an idea. How about banning any kid in the US who isn't a US citizen from going to school for 5 years. We don't want government aid going to anyone who just arrived in the country. Wait that's too harsh. How about banning anyone from going to school in the US if they aren't in the country legally. Can't let government aid go to foreign citizens. Oh wait...

The GOP is shooting themselves in the foot with these legal immigrants and their parents, not to mention undocumented ones. If the moderate and liberal Republicans can't take back their party from the cons then it's just going devolve even more into the AWMP (the Angry White Man Party), losing its relevance in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

Are you serious? First of all they are legal immigrants. And what Ive noticed recently on this forum is alot of us want to throw other immigrants including documented and older undocumented under the bus, except, of course dreamies.

Immigrants should be included in the SCHIP bill. Do you think immigrants will come to this country to get health insurance for thier children? Maybe a few but, c'mon lets be realistic barely any will.

Right Now thousands of jobs are getting cut because of the current state of the economy. Legal immigrants just like USC who could pay for thier childrens healthcare and such cannow now. So is it fair that the government helps US citizens during times like this but not immigrants? This will create a two class society. Basically the Gov. will be sending the message, that we want you will you can create wealth and income, but when your on your back n need help F* OFF. These families will not be able to pay thier mortgages/healthcare/ and bills then either end up homeless or move back to thier nations of origin (Which some of them may not know all too familiar).

not to mention none of the republicans voted for the stimulus package. I think they are going with the whole Angry White Man Party thing for the year. I feel like they won't go with anything Obama does... they are pissed. I think we still need few of them to vote for Dream... gonna be tough.
