I should start off by saying how happy I am to have come across this website/forum. I'm a 20 year old college student and currently writing a persuasive speech on the D.R.E.A.M. Act that I have to give on Monday. But before I continue with that, I'll explain myself a little bit. I am from New England and attending college full time. I got married to my boyfriend of 3 years when I was 18 and he was 17 (Behind my parents back). He's from Brazil and is applying to colleges, something he never ever thought he'd get the chance to do. Although the struggle has been tough and a tear-jerker I think more people should be familar with the struggle before they can judge. I'm sure many agree. Anyways, I'm definitely looking for help on my speech, more specifically opposing viewpoint thoughts. Those who disagree with the D.R.E.A.M. Act feel that these young adults should deported or put in a detention center, just wondering if you've heard any other opposing viewpoints that I can poke holes at to make the D.R.E.A.M. Act more appealing to those die-hard ANTI immigrant people. And try to be realistic, blowing them up obviously is not something I want to speak about...

Thank You,

Not going to happen.

You could never prove an Anti-Immigrant group wrong. If they were wrong, they'd just be a group of ignorant and stupid people.

Your best bet would be to scratch the ideas of Anti-Immigrant groups and simply point out how loony these people are to everyone else in hopes of this insanity not spreading to anyone else.

Watch the following video to see a couple anti-immigration myths dispelled:

I only need to point out opposing view points and poke holes in it just for my persuasive speech even if it does not change their minds, i have to atleast point them out. it's the only part of my speech i am struggling with because i cannot find any logical (EVEN THOUGH i do not agree) thoughts other than detention centers, deport them, and crazy ones i will not repeat in front of 50 people and a respected college professor such as blow them up.

Did you watch the video I posted? Watch it, it covers some of the more common anti-immigration points.

Hello!
Welcome to DAP!! I'm from New England too!
Well...I wrote a persuasive speech on the dream act some time ago for a college class...my professor liked...but there was a anti immigrant girl in my class that was not very happy about it! I hope I still had the paper so you could take a look at it...I'm sorry!!! But I'm sure you'll find a lot of info here....
Good luck!!!
