A little more than two weeks ago we announced the 10 winners of our Ideas for Change in America competition at an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Macon Phillips, Director of New Media for the White House, formally accepted the ideas and said that "I can speak with authority that a lot of people in the transition were paying attention to the competition."

But now, with the voting over, the real work begins. Today, in collaboration with an outstanding group of nonprofits, we're excited to announce the launch of advocacy campaigns around each of the 10 winning ideas which aim to turn each idea into national policy.

These are no ordinary campaigns. Because the ideas behind them were voted on by you, each nonprofit is committed to involve each of you in the process of unfolding and running its campaign. We've turned Ideas for Change in America into a platform to host each of these efforts, where our nonprofit partners will be blogging about their progress, soliciting your suggestions and feedback, and providing opportunities for direct action.

We're also excited to announce that Participant Media's TakePart.com has generously donated Flip video cameras to each of the campaigns so that participants can easily document their work and feature it on the Ideas for Change site. In addition, Participant will be working in the coming months to compile videos from all of the campaigns into serial shorts that will show, from the inside, how advocacy campaigns are built and create real social change.

So how can you participate? First, check out the list of ideas at Ideas for Change and join the conversation by commenting on one of the introductory posts. Second, take action by emailing your Congressperson to tell them why each issue is important to you. Third, offer a suggestion for one of the campaigns you support, or help raise awareness by sharing the campaign with friends. These campaigns are owned by all of us, and this is your chance to directly participate in the effort of turning an idea you care about into reality.

See you on the site!

Finally, and this is the time. Get calling, e mailing, and faxing. Go Full Force, Dreamers.
PS: I am glad that DREAM Act is the first idea on the list.

I am not sure what some people expected from Change.org. It is just another platform for us to get our voices heard through.

They are going to be posting our videos, our blogs, our action alerts. They are going to be providing us with access to their Democracy in Action tool (cheaper version of capwiz, costs about 1k a month and up).

Participant Media (takepart.org) has provided us with a video camera and in a year they'll be making a documentary using the videos that are submitted to them.

Keep in mind that change.org will get our message to an audience that we normally wouldn't have access to and so what they are giving us is much more powerful and more importantly, long-lasting, than say a 10min shpeel on Oprah or <insert talk show people always say we should get on>.

Do some research on the site, it's founders and partners and then come back and say this is an ally we don't want...

this is better than no support. I agree with quaker on Change giving us a greater avenue for us to express our stories. Im slightly disappointed in the way the represented themselves ( by hinting at myspace campaigns, talking with Obama Admin, ect.)

Yeah, it was a letdown. I had in mind professional lobbyists as well as the myspace sponsorship and direct contact with the administration/congress, like you mentioned.

I still am happy to have this, though, as it really does expose us to an audience that we normally would be invisible to. Any positive exposure is good for us, and change.org if nothing else is an upgraded vehicle with which to transport our message to the public.

So, it's a good thing that I'm grateful for.

Dont get me wrong, I appreciate the exposure, I just really dont feel like some website needs to tell us to call and email and take action n reach our congressmen if we're already doing that without them needing to tell us. Even if we hadnt been on that list we still wouldnt have stopped calling and taking action.
