Hi currently I am a junior attending a NYC public school. I am ranked #3 in my school and I want to study aerospace engineering however I am not a US citizen i have applied for a residency in feb 2001 and still waiting to receive it. As the end of high school seems to approach i want to get inform about all the options that I have to attend college whether it is in the US or not. I have several family members that are US citizens and i don't know how this can help me. In addition my parents have a ITIN # and have file their income taxes since we first came here.

Welcome!
You're from New York City too? That's great!
Being in NYC is actually pretty lucky, since you can apply to CUNYs and SUNYs with little trouble and with little cost. I have applied to those schools and have gotten in (and still waiting!).
Except, I'm not sure if any of those have aerospace engineering (you'd have to check each one) but even if those colleges don't have it, there are probably other colleges that have it and will accept you.
Just email or call the colleges and ask them their policies on undocumented students.

Hey welcome to the forum

Since you are from NY and you are graduation from a NY high-school you are able to get in-state tuition.

http://www.maldef.org/pdf/Scholarships_072003.pdf <---- scholarships you can apply for regardless of your status.

Also definitely apply to private schools and then once you are in work on getting funding, many a great dream students have done just that.

Lastly, be sure to check out the NYSYLC to find out how you can get active in NY.

Welcome to DAP!

So if you're waiting for your citizenship then you're a permanent resident?

Welcome here.I am currently doing Aerospace Eng from Penn State. But I suggest you apply to Cuny or Suny whichever is cheaper and do your first 2 yrs of Mechanical Engr there for 3 reasons. One you will be easily accepted there. Two the costs would be reasonable and third you study almost the general stuff for first 2 years and after that you can declare your major as Aerospace. Then you can pick any good university like Purdue,Buffalo,Penn State etc.
Hopefully by then we will be able to pass Dream Act and you will be elligible for scholarships and Fafsa and so on.Good Luck.

Thanks for the great advice. Does anyone knows if MIT accepts or gives any financial aid to illegal students?

positivecharge How were you accepted to Penn State?
