I know I know... economy economy economy.

That's why dream is probably being delayed. But even so I cannot help but to think that things are looking like a manure for us. Things were much more optimistic few months a go, I wonder if this economy thing will ever settle down. Once economy settles a bit (who knows when that will be, it looks like it'll be the major issue for next two years) Afghanistan is also a top issue... O world with heap of troubles... when will DREAM ever be mentioned?

I know the economy is really drowning other issues. Last year I taught that DREAM would be up for a vote in the senate around this time and getting ready to be voted on in the house(back then I was super optimistic, now I'm just taking it one day at a time). I hope that the stimulus money starts working in the coming weeks and months so that the economy can settle down. Today was the first day since Obama took office that he have mention immigration on live national media.( He was talking about the shortage of nurses at the health care summit)

Yes it is just a dream. We all should just forget about all this fiction and live our lives normally as every other legal citizen would.

Relax and think that every day is one day closer to the "Dream" becoming a reality.

I understand that everyone is a bit frustrated (including me) but these threads are really pointless.

Things you can do to make sure Dream Act is not a dream:
1. Start working on some kind of dream act projects...regardless of how small it is.
2. Visit Dreamactivist.org often and make sure you know what projects are currently going on.
3. Make sure you are subscribed to some kind of mailinglist so we can contact you when something is need to be done. Contact mo@dreamactivist.org.
4. Tell people about the Dream Act. You don't have to tell them you are undocumented yourself.

Look i know it sucks. The fact that i'm undocumented affects me EVERY DAY. I'm tired of it but that it also inspires me to be more involved in getting this bill finally passed.

remember what I said during the presidential campaign that Obama sounded too good to be true? well that is why. There is no way he was able to deliver everything he promised, specially the immigration part. DREAM within the fisrt 100 days of his administration? I didn't think it was going to happen.

he won the election because he used a very old strategy: tell everyone what they want to hear.

now. there's no need to be feeling down. we should be thankful for living in this great country and have our health.

everyone cheer up. this is not the end of the world. after all this is over we will have character

Obama never said he wanted Dream in the first 100 days of his Presidency. During the campaign, he said he wants Dream done as soon as possible although he did say "one thing we can do immediately" during the Texas primary debate but he never said anything specific about Dream timelines. Obama did promise CIR in the first year of his Presidency, and we'll see if he fulfills that promise.

People were more excited about Obama because he specifically mentioned the Dream Act in rallies and in one debate, but I think people got carried away with the expectations. We'll get our shot this year, but we don't know if it's stand alone or part of CIR.

To give a little background, here's what happened back in 2007; the first year the Democrats took back Congress and when Dream was thought to have a chance:

1. Sen. Durbin introduced the Dream Act in March 2007.

2. Dream was attached to CIR but CIR failed to pass both times in June 2007.

3. Sen. Durbin tried to attach Dream to a Defense Appropriations bill in July 2007 but he withdrew it because of lack of time for debate.

4. Sen. Durbin tried to attach Dream to a Defense related budget bill in September 2007 but withdrew because he couldn't find enough votes.

5. Sen. Durbin and Sen. Majority Leader Reid tried to bring the Dream Act to the floor for for debate on October 2007 but could not get 60 votes to overcome a Republican filibuster.

Chances are better in 2009 though because of the increased Democratic majority and a President who will sign the bill.

I think that the priority of the Obama administration at this point is to make sure that the economy bottoms out by summer. Only then will we see the actual 'results' of the stimulus package and maybe, just maybe, some positive effect of the TARP on the financial sector. Now, that doesn't mean that the economy will be fixed at that point, but we shouldn't worry about that. Obama is a very smart man and he knows that he doesn't need to waste time and energy fighting Republican obstuctionism. All he needs to do is stop the bleeding for the next 2 years. He's already counting on a number of victories in the senate in 2010 which would enable him to pass the right kind of stimulus and then really turn the economy around.

Relax people, it's only March. Obama has only been president for a month. We need to be a little patient and use this time to participate in projects and do what we can to make this pass.

Sign the petition over at DreamACTivist.org and like Verve said, always check the website for projects we're working on.

Right now, we're looking for Regional Representatives from all over the country. Please consider applying
