Hello, all. I have been lurking behind the scenes for quite some time; sporadically checking back on any newsworthy updates. I have stumbled on a lot of people's stories and I have been able to answer many questions that I didn't even know I had. It has been very nice indeed to have a place where we can share the profound emotions that it is to be an undocumented student. I thank you all for that.
Well, let's put that little introduction aside and get to my question which will take a little bit of context to ask. I have been living in Illinois ever since I came here and actually lived out in Florida a few times as well. For the past four years or so, I have actually been attending school in Illinois and that's where I graduated from High School. After High School, I decided that the best thing to do was attend a local community college and transfer out once I had enough credits. Well, around last fall, which was supposed to be my last semester at my community college, I applied to the University of Illinois at Chicago for Spring 09' and was accepted in. The crappy part was that I did not have enough money to move out there and pay for school with my own money neither did I have anyone to co-sign for a loan. So, I decided that I should work for another semester while attending part-time at school for Spring 09' at my community college. Here comes my question. As I looked back at my acceptance letter, I saw that it said that I had been accepted as a non-resident of Illinois and would be charged out-of-state tuition. I immediately panicked because I just submitted my app for the fall. Also, I did not even bother to check last time around - very stupid, I know. Has anyone had any similar experiences for places that offer in-state tuition for undocumented students? I am planning on calling first thing Monday and finding out what happened so I will provided an update...

Illinois provides in-state tuition for undocumented students at all public universities and colleges. Go here for more info.

Just tell them your situation and you should be fine. If the person you're telling this info doesn't know about the law, tell them, or ask them to direct you to someone who does.

When i applied to a cal state in california, i too was supposed to pay out of state. but i filed the ab540 exemption from out of state tuition form. you may want to look into who handles residency issues at your school. usually in admissions or enrollment services.

Thanks for all the help. I looked up some more information the website and found a site where you can send in a petition to change that. So I don't see any problems there. The other problem I was worried about was that since I am being reviewed as a out-of-state student they might hold a certain biased against out-of-state students. Oh well, keep my fingers crossed I guess.
