Jose Vargas Event

On Wednesday, May 9th the U-Chicago Coalition for Immigrant Ri ghts (UCCIR) will be hosting Jose Antonio Vargas at 6pm (doors open with li ght food and refreshments at 5:30) at International House (1414 E. 59th Str eet). Vargas will speak and there will also be an opportunity to donate to the Illinois DREAM fund as well as time for Q&A.

Vargas is Filipino- American and a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist who has worked for such ne wspapers as the San Franscisco Chronicle, Huffington Post and Washington P ost. Last summer he left the shadows, coming out as undocumented in the Ne w York Times in a very powerful op-ed . Since then Vargas has founded www.d efineamerican.com where he raises awareness of undocumented issues and advo cates for immigration reform across the country.
