Re: Having trouble switching social at work

Im on the same situation as the OP .. I told my manager about my situation and she said she was gonna have to terminate me and rehire me with my new number but then she contact the HR department at the corporate office to ask if it was possible to do this and they told her it was not possible because i've been lying to the company for all this years and been putting the company at risk so she told me to leave it as is .. :(

Re: Having trouble switching social at work

I am having the same issue right now. So this is my story during the summer I was working for this company as a workers compensation assistant( my first job ever) it was about two months and a half long. I have not work ever since, I been in school currently fall semester. However, my boss whom i was working w/ called me yesterday asking me if I wanted to work as an assistant with her once again. I was looking for a job so I said yes. The problem now is that i used a fake social during the summer to the social(real ssn) presented today to fill my employment application. Now HR deparment is asking me to give a reason as to why they are different. I called my cousin and she told me to write a letter to the HR deparment saying that I made a mistake when writing my ssn on the previous papers and if they can switch it. But she then called me back telling me to go to the social security office where i applied for my social and ask for a letter stating that this is my new ssn and to refer to this one ( a very similar situation happend to my cousin's friend and this is what she did). I am going to the social security office to ask for a letter and I see what happens.

Re: Having trouble switching social at work

Just got back from SSA. Lady said the only thing she could give me was a print-out that said the social was assigned to me. I'm guessing that'll work for what I need it.

Have you showed them this?

All you would need to do is fill out a new I-9 and have them update your old one at HR.

No I have not show them that. but HR is making a big deal about it cus they're saying that i lied on my I-9 when i was first hired and to them thats a big no no. According to this http://www.nilc.org/dacaworkplacerights.html#currentjob they have all the right to fired me :

But the situation will be different if you completed an I-9 form when you were first hired. For example, if your employer discovers that you lied and presented false documents at the time you were hired, the employer may be able to legally fire you. If the employer’s policy is to fire anybody who is dishonest in the workplace and the employer has enforced the rule consistently for all workers, the employer may be able to legally fire you. Therefore, you should think carefully about whether to disclose the fact that you now have an EAD or a new SSN to your employer.

Yeah, our company is strict on that too, but I've decided to go ahead with it. If I get fired, then oh well.

Re: Having trouble switching social at work

I just got back from the SSA with a print out verifying that my ssn belongs to me. Took it to the HR department and they told me I should be clear. Moreover, they are going to change the previous ssn to the one I just got due to DACA.

You, sir, have no idea how modern corporations work. This is how everything is. You have to jump through ten hoops to do anything other than send an email.
