True...but now he's on record on Sunday talk shows saying this about filibuster reform, so we will see if it goes anywhere.

Not happening.

Sen. Kirsten Sinema won't go along

She, like Manchin, want the Senate to come together and pass bills on bipartisan negotiations.

Manchin is just saying what most Democrats have said before. He won't change the filibuster. He would lose his next reelection if he did.

It's all about protecting their political campaigns.

The way forward is for negotiations to start right after the House votes out those two immigration bills (Ag jobs/ Dream Act/TPS)

This is it. The only way Dream Act will pass is through regular stand alone vote. Ain't know "budget reconciliation" BS happening. The Dems will simply not do that. They will drag this out as much as they can but I do firmly believe this is it...it is going to pass now. They've kicked the can down enough.

I am not discount the possibility that dems are trying to push the budget reconciliation or the filibuster as a way to drop the GOP asking price for immigration. That seems like a very political thing to do.

Some more info on Manchin's views:

Quote:

Now, in an interview with Politico, Manchin appears to have gotten even more specific about the changes he’d be willing to entertain—and it bodes poorly for the GOP’s obstruction plans. Specifically, the piece says, Manchin “thinks either the majority needs to come up with 60 votes to overcome a filibuster or the minority to come up with 41 votes to sustain it.” It’s a short, passing paraphrase in an article that is ostensibly about how Democrats don’t have the votes to actually change the filibuster. But when considered in the context of Manchin’s comments over the weekend, it’s potentially a big deal. The senator has now said that on top of requiring the minority to actually talk during a filibuster, he’d be open to requiring that they keep 41 votes on the floor in order to maintain their blockade. No matter what, that would be a massive time suck for opposition lawmakers, which would make filibustering more logistically difficult. But once you’ve made the rule change, it also opens up the potential for old-timey hardball tactics like running the Senate 24/7 until the opposing side just drops.
