New DACA tweets
@ChadPergram
Top Dem on Hse Homeland Security Cmte Thompson on GOP/DACA: These demands are non-starters for Democrats & only show us that the President is not acting in good faith. The American people overwhelmingly agree that legalization and citizenship for Dreamers is the right thing to do Chad Pergram Top Dem on Hse Homeland Secuirty Cmte Thompson: This latest cynical effort to use vulnerable DACA youth as a bargaining chip to secure President Trump's fantasy of a closed immigration system and an unnecessary border wall is a new low for this Administration. @ChadPergram McCarthy on Fox: The only people that are trying to shut down government is Nancy Pelosi. I’ve watched on the other side of the chamber as she whipped mbrs..she’s pressuring them, trying to get into a shutdown to blame President Trump. @ChadPergram McCarthy on Fox on border security/DACA: If ee don’t deal w/security & chain migration, we will be be back..on a DACA issue in a few yrs. The Republicans are holding back daca talks because they want 90% of their priorities in exchange for Dreamer legislation. Leadership is holding us hostage thanks to trump. If Dream Act were to be put on the floor I think it would pass. Just some crazy members holding stuff up |

Re: New DACA tweets
And those are just the problems for Republicans in the Senate.
“In the House, they cannot pass a bill without Democratic support,” Schumer recently suggested. “They have divisions on the Republican side between the defense hawks. The deficit hawks. The people who want a lot of (disaster) money for Texas and Florida. So that gives the House Democrats leverage.” Democrats want the shutdown to happen in the house because of all the liberal and blue districts. It’s easier for them to win re-election / shutdown govt. |

Re: New DACA tweets
In response to a Rep. King tweet
@JakeSherman Jake Sherman Retweeted Steve King This is the squeeze you’re going to see in the coming weeks. Yes — many Republicans want a DACA deal. But there is a healthy pocket — i’d goes between 30-50 House Rs — who want nothing to do with a deal. https://twitter.com/JakeSherman/stat...97048254189573 That's the problem. Those that don't want the deal are the ones actively pursing a wall + entire wish list of the alt-right. They would rather have no wall than DACA compromise. |
Re: New DACA tweets

Re: New DACA tweets
Republicans are demanding too much. But, unless Democrats grow some fucking balls and make the GOP come to the center with leverage on spending, we will not get anything. If we get something, the compromise will have a shit ton of border security. Democrats should have threatened to shut the government down in Dec. The GOP draws hard lines like Miller's demands, but the Dems refrain from even threatening to shut the gov down. BOTH PARTIES are to blame if nothing gets done.

Re: New DACA tweets
I'm going to guess that there will be some bill on the floor but another CR will be signed to punt this issue until February...
For what it's worth, no updates on any of the bills so far (Though Flake's Bill/S. 2199 now has a concise summary! https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-...nate-bill/2199) |

We're screwed ya'll. Seriously. At least Trump will get what he wants and look tough on immigration and dems can use our sob stories. That's what they'll discuss on Tuesday and then they'll laugh it up.

I don’t know about y’all, personally, as long as they do something for us, at this point, I don’t care what else they get. This ride has been crazy, some resolution is needed. Uncertainty is the worst. We just need to pressure them to come up with a deal. Give them the fucking wall already.

Re: New DACA tweets
I said this in another post, but in some years, spending bill was signed all the way in May, so this isn't unprecedented. I really don't think Democrats will/should use the debt ceiling as leverage. That's a much riskier bet politically for Democrats than shutting down the government, IMO.
So, Jan. 19 or bust (I can see Feb. extension but ONLY if the basic outline of the deal is confirmed and the Congress needs a week/two just to finalize all the technical details... Congress has done this kind of agreement in the past). |
