Dems say 20 'poison pills' stand in way of spending deal
House Democratic leaders said Tuesday that more than a dozen “poison pill” provisions are preventing a bipartisan deal on 2018 spending, pushing Congress ever-closer to a government shutdown on Saturday and leading some top lawmakers to float the idea that another stop-gap bill may be needed to keep Washington running.
On her subcommittee, Roybal-Allard said the sides “are still at an impasse” over Republican requests for tougher border security and interior enforcement of immigration laws. It’s still border security — [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents,” she said. “We really have been very flexible, in a lot of the areas, and they just won’t budge.” Rep. Nita Lowey (N.Y.), senior Democrat on the Appropriations Committee, declined to specify the outstanding issues, but she confirmed that the 20 figure is accurate. Several Democratic lawmakers said they’re still pushing to salvage the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program as part of the omnibus package. President Trump has sought to eliminate the program, though a federal judge has temporarily blocked that effort. The lack of certainty surrounding the program’s future has led many Democrats to insist that "Dreamer" protections be included in the spending bill. You’ve got a court decision that protects the existing DACA kids. So protecting the existing DACA kids is no deal. We already have that, so it would have to go beyond that to be significant,” Lofgren said. “We’ve got kids who have aged in, who were too young to apply, and they can’t apply under the court order.” Roybal-Allard also emphasized that Democrats would accept tougher immigration enforcement only if the Republicans shifted tactics and offered broad protections to Dreamers and other immigrants in the country illegally. We would have to get something really substantial,” she said. “At least there are still talks going on,” she added. “A couple of days when there was nothing. Now at least there’s discussions at different levels.” http://thehill.com/homenews/house/37...-spending-deal Not a penny towards border security if we don’t get any protections in place. |

Dream Act with no age cap.
Protect long-time undocumented immigrants who are under Orders of Supervision and have clean records. DO NOT ALLOW INCREASED DETENTION. |

@beehive and @versailles
Well, giving relief to other Dreamers who don't have Daca is not what is causing your Daca to term. Surely, you both know that. |
Re: Dems say 20 'poison pills' stand in way of spending deal
Trump originally said 1.8 million I think he also included age out

Wall money still in omnibus. If the Democrats allow this, that's ridiculous:
@ChadPergram Omnibus spending bill still not complete. Gov’t funded thru 11:59:59 pm et Friday. But they are getting close. No Gateway Project for NY/NJ. $1.6b for wall. No DACA. GOP hopes to post today & whip the vote. Hse would vote tomorrow |

Re: Dems say 20 'poison pills' stand in way of spending deal
That would be REPREHENSIBLE. $1.6 billion isn't chump change and realize that some of the money will be used for raids.

Re: Dems say 20 'poison pills' stand in way of spending deal
Another sticking point: immigration. Talks to protect young immigrants facing deportation fell apart over the weekend, but congressional Democrats spent Monday and Tuesday pushing to freeze hiring of immigration enforcement officials in return for providing Trump more than $1 billion in funding on his border wall.
Democrats and Republicans are likely to agree on about $1.6 billion in border funding that would help finance some fencing and security and avoid directly funding the large concrete wall that Trump wants, according to a Democratic aide. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pol...hursday-473010 Yup, Dems are going to agree to give him that 1 billion for NOTHING . These are our so called allies. |

If Democrats agree to this, EXPECT A SHIT LOAD OF BACKLASH. If they hold the line against the funding, expect a government shutdown. The GOP is not backing down. <--This is what the Democrats need to do on DACA, but some of you just do not get it.
If they cave on that money, expect more raids. That money won't only be used for "fencing"/the wall. |

If Dems agree to this, the gov will conduct more raids. Raids have been going on in CA, and 508 people have been arrested so far. For fucks sake. More money without anything done on DACA? |

@jbreisblatt
Thread... Important misunderstanding in @politico @playbookplus this am. They mention that Democrats will be able to keep #immigration detention funding lower than what Trump admin wanted, but context here is important... The Trump admin asked for 51,379 beds for FY2018... This is 50 PERCENT above where detention bed funding was over the last few years under Obama when #immigration detention beds hovered around 34,000. @ICEgov has continually chosen to use more detention beds than it has money for during CRs & then asked Congress to bail them out.. Thus far Congress has bailed them out EACH time. Despite Dems and Rs not being happy that @ICEgov is trying to write itself a blank check from Congress. When it came time to write FY2018 budgets, BOTH the House and Senate did not come close to funding 51,379 detention beds.. So of course the Trump administration is NOT getting every #immigration detention bed it wants, even Republicans in the HOUSE were not willing to fund that amount. But what is happening, is #immigration detention and therefore the deportation machinery IS growing... Democrats and Republicans who do not want to see #Dreamers, #TPS holders and others filling #immigration detention beds would do well to try an keep @ICEgov in check and not fund these insane levels of detention |

This is a huge betrayal for immigrant communities.
The Congressional Hispanic and Progressive Caucus better not vote for this. They are not including Dream They are funding the wall They are funding deportations Vote them out. |
