Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
If this change was made, it could help immigration reform be passed:

Babe?....
Why are you such a creep... |
Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
Ngl, the silent filibuster was the worst invention of the recent senate. If you want to delay a vote by dragging the debate onward then debate (or make a fool out of yourself by reading Green Ham and Eggs out loud to the floor). This "I object, go look for 60 votes" move is absolute horseshit.

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
I think Manchin is just being a tease. This would essentially get rid of the filibuster
|
Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
Hopefully true but manchin has gone on record before stating he wants most bills to be bipartisan

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
The democrats are toast if they don’t abolish the filibuster. Republicans are moving to make voting more difficult, gerrymander districts, and pass state laws to claw back power. Democrats will never be in the position of power and it will be harder for them to win at the presidential level if they don’t do something about the electoral collage too

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
Well they need to do it soon because midterms is coming up and who knows if democrats will hold the 50 seats.

Good news

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
Not happening.
Sen. Kirsten Sinema won't go along She, like Manchin, want the Senate to come together and pass bills on bipartisan negotiations. Manchin is just saying what most Democrats have said before. He won't change the filibuster. He would lose his next reelection if he did. It's all about protecting their political campaigns. The way forward is for negotiations to start right after the House votes out those two immigration bills (Ag jobs/ Dream Act/TPS) |

omg forgot you two have mutual understandings

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
I am not discount the possibility that dems are trying to push the budget reconciliation or the filibuster as a way to drop the GOP asking price for immigration. That seems like a very political thing to do.

Re: Joe Manchin opens the door to filibuster reform
Turtle is worried and unhappy:
@JakeSherman McConnell on the floor this AM, in talking about the filibuster: “Nobody serving in this chamber can even begin to imagine what a completely scorched earth Senate would look like.” @JakeSherman McConnell says if Dems blow up the filibuster, he’ll require a quorum for everything. Past actions will seem like “child’s play" McConnell says he would enact conservative policies with “zero input” from Dems. Lists defunding planned parenthood, sanctuary cities and nationwide right to work, concealed carried reciprocity in D.C. and 50 states |
