Brown: immigration reform should focus on economy
November 12, 2010

BOSTON—Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown says he wants to work with Senate Democrats on possible federal immigration reform, as long as it's not "fluff."

The Republican told The Associated Press Friday he plans to meet with leaders of both parties about options for reforms.

But he said any effort should be focused on improving the economy.

Brown made the comments at the opening of a new wing focusing on art of the Americas at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.

During his campaign for Senate, Brown said he would push for restrictions on illegal immigration. He also recently called a proposal to give some illegal immigrant students a pathway to citizenship through college or military service "amnesty."
Well, this is better than "Deport them all", right?

yes... but this doesn't mean much. It's just 1 guy in a sea of red... unless he's talking about doing it in the lame duck session.

His a senator from a Liberal state. If he Looks too conservative He will not win his re-election on 2012.

When the Repub Title wave arrived it did not hit Massachusetts as bad as other states in fact i think Brown is the only Repub to be in congress from that state.... the rest are all Dems. His just trying to get re-elected.

depends, if he is talking about the lame duck session then it is just as well that he is saying to terminate all chances of legalization. CIR is not going to pass this lame duck, not something that expansive, complicated and controversial. A strategist that wants to make sure nothing gets passed regarding immigration might support the bill less likely to pass and push for it.

I hope that he is not doing this with that in mind and is willing to really considering the DREAM Act as a stand alone.

This means nothing if he strictly supports CIR.

Senator Kay Hagan from North Carolina has repeatedly said she supports CIR but would never vote for DREAM as a standalone.

Then this means he should be leaning towards a YES on Dream Act too. Thats what we need him to do.

It means that he want to discuss federal immigration reform, and he will vote yes on what he does not consider "fluff."

Sounds like a tactic being put out to promote prolonging anything until republicans take control next year, or pushing the more controversial CIR which would be next to impossible to pass during the lame duck session.

All it does is bring him from a nay to an unclear as far as his position on the DREAM Act is concerned. We don't even know what he considers "fluff."
