Boehner sees U.S. immigration bill by year's end

Quote:

(Reuters) - House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said he expects an overhaul of immigration rules to become law by the end of the year, but that the Senate's version "doesn't go far enough" to secure the U.S. border with Mexico or enforce the proposed new system.

"I've got real concerns about the Senate bill, especially in the area of border security and internal enforcement of the system. I'm concerned that it doesn't go far enough," Boehner, the top Republican in Congress, told ABC in an interview that aired on Tuesday.

Boehner added that reforming the nation's immigration system was his top legislative priority this year.

"I think by the end of the year we could have a bill," he told ABC. Asked if that bill would be one to also pass the Democrat-led Senate and be signed into law by President Barack Obama, Boehner said: "No question."

Boehner did not answer a question on whether the House Republican version of the legislation would support a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented workers already in the United States, a provision included in the Senate bill which many Republicans criticize as providing amnesty.

The speaker's comments come as the Senate prepares to take its first floor vote on the issue this week, with a final vote on the overall bill expected by late June. The Senate bill also calls for billions of dollars in new spending for enhanced border security and new visa programs for high- and low-skilled workers.

Obama, a Democrat, will also try to drum up support for immigration reform later on Tuesday in a speech expected to highlight the proposed law's economic and national security benefits.

..smh...

Now supposedly the Senate bill will be a wrap around July...so basically the House is gonna wipe their ass with the Senate bill and then delay progress for 5 more months?

...smh...

I am so effing sick and tired of listening to the GOP tirade about border security! They just need to come up and be up front about the fact that they don't want the legalization part. The don't understand that they're shooting themselves in the foot with this nonsense. Hopefully the party dies sooner than later.

WHAT????!!!!! And how long does it suppose to take to have BS (border security) 'certification', 6 mos to a year? And after that then one can apply???? Are you kidding me, this guy wants people to wait until 2015 to apply? Wait, Gutierrez also said legalization wouldn't happen until 2015, we read it here on this forum:

Gutierrez does not expect CIR to become a reality until 2015

And this is from someone who was right in the middle of so-called negotiations two years ago, and now apparently he's been in the know all of this time. Lovely, so Obama can continue expelling people rooted in this country.

I bet this is the actual reason why the Senate has dragged this process out.

"We will pass CIR in December right after the mass deportations bill I'm working on"

If it doesn't pass now, it won't pass unless both houses and the presidency are Democratic..

And I thought I procrastinate a lot. That's exactly what these clowns are doing. They know they have to deal with it. The Republican party at risk of extinction the longer they keep jeopardizing immigration reform. They do not want to offer their own solution but want to keep Democrats from passing this bill that is very very comprehensive and fair.
