Re: Lugar pulls his name from Dream Act

Makes sense. Lugar is running for reelection in 2012, and is already on the Tea Party's shit list.

It's sad. I hope he still votes for it though.

Re: Democrats Say They Will Re-Introduce DREAM Act!

^ Yup. We shouldn't expect it to pass, and I don't think Washington does either. But there are tons of Freshman members in this congress, and IMO, we need to get a record of how they will vote on...

Re: Democrats Say They Will Re-Introduce DREAM Act!

I disagree. The POTUS is using the political leverage he got from killing Bin Laden. The timing is right, but it's still far from a sure thing.

Re: Of the top Republican prospects for 2012, Gingrich leads in Latino outreach

Some More Facts:
5 Democrats Voted Against the DREAM ACT. 36 Republicans Voted Against.

50 Dems voted for DREAM, along with 3 Republicans.

I agree that DREAM deserves bipartisan support,...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

I disagree with you guys on a few points.

* 5 Dems disagreed with the party- and hopefully there will be consequences. But the president's job isn't to control the votes of MOC's- that's more up...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

And please, presidents don't introduce Bills to the Congress (I knew Government class would be useful!). That's a job for the members of congress.

I know I'm not going to convince Ali that...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

Wait, you do realize that 111th congress voted on DREAM during the lame duck right? I'm trying to decipher your attempt at condescension and don't understand what you were trying to say...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

I'm not even going to re-address the fact that there isn't ONE senator who voted against the bill that would have voted in favor if it was introduced earlier.

Keep up your complaining and moaning...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

You're right Ali. If he tacked it in the first month of his term, five more senators would have voted in favor of the bill just because.

Common sense goes a long way.

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

What do you want him to do exactly?
He's not a dictator. The Dream Act failed in the Senate- And it's chances of passing are much lower now than before. What makes you think voting on it now is a...

Re: Barack Obama still hopeful on immigration

Um.. you guys realize there are three branches of government right? Obama can't pass a federal law by himself.

And also, introducing the DREAM to a republican congress, imo, would only have...

Agreed. I never understood the Mexican flag thing. It's a strange way to plead for American Citizenship, to be sure.

Re: Has anyone ever applied for a Student Visa?

One idea, if you're not too picky, is to get into a college in Canada and get a student visa there.
Canada has a much more open immigration system.

Not sure how or whether it would work in your...

Re: S. Korean males won't be able to apply for PR even when DA passes?

This thread is horrible.
Dream Act activism should be a fight against xenophobia and intolerance-
it's such a hypocrisy that dreamers of all people would be so inclusive.

His logic seems contrived. What exactly does the Dream Act have to do with a lunatic with a gun?
Surely he means well, but I think the timing is just wrong, and his argument unconvincing.

Re: Is the DREAM Act being rewritten?

I don't think this is consistent with the message of DREAM, decriminalizes illegal immigration for children who had no other choice.

I think that, in order to make it more appealing to GOP'ers, it...
