If the economy recovers, the control will turn democrat. If it doesn't, it will turn republican. Simple as that. Also, the economy is on its way to recovery, President Obama said jobs would start coming back in 2011, and that is happening too. 244k jobs added report came out last week. Obama has gotten tough on National Security lately, notice this was his weakness during the 2008 campaign. But in the end, it will all depend on the economy.

Obama is doing a good job keeping CIR alive. I think this is the year. Now is the time.

^ I just can't see Republicans voting yes on a bill that grants amnesty, they know most of their voters are too "old fashioned." Without a Democrat majority there's no chance in hell :/

This is what I call blind optimism. Not willing to accept that the Democrats and Obama have actually delayed the issue for no reason. DA USER should view this with a realistic eye.

Republican leaders in the GOP-controlled House oppose anything Obama. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said “The president wasn’t able to pass his version of immigration reform when he had large Democratic majorities in the House and Senate because of bipartisan opposition, so it’s unlikely he will succeed anytime soon,”

National and border security policies from Obama are not so popular among Republicans.

Lamar Smith is just one A*****. It doesn't mean that all Republicans will oppose some type of immigration reform. There will always be some opposition. I am pretty sure the same thing happened with the reform in 1986; some Republicans didn't like it, and they tried to speak out on behalf of others. Look you never know. I am confident something will get done if pushed to the extreme. Waiting is not going to help either because no one knows what the makeup of congress will be in 2013. Obama has to try now. If he doesn't and Republicans gain control of both chambers (one of many hypothetical situations), all of us will be even more screwed.

Also, Smith, for sure, is referring to the DREAM-Act stand alone bill, which is distinct from CIR. A border security provision makes these bills different.
