This seems like a realistic timeline, but it is going to be an extremely long year.
Quote:
The Senate Gang of 8 led by Arizona Sen. John McCain and New York Sen. Charles Schumer is poised to introduce a comprehensive immigration bill as soon as next Monday, April 8, according to sources briefed on the timetable. As Schumer, a Democrat, said over the weekend the big moving parts of a bill have been agreed to in principle and details are being worked out this week.

Labor and business have agreed on a guest worker plan, and the senators in the Gang of 8 from the right and left have agreed on how “border security” will be defined. Although Schumer did not reveal the metrics involved, sources tell ABC News the definition of a secure border will largely entail how much money will be spent on new equipment from drones to planes to vehicles, and how many new border patrol agents will be hired before “a path to citizenship” is agreed upon.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., warned over the weekend that after the bill is introduced there still have to be hearings and an opportunity for members of the entire Senate to add amendments. Sources close to Rubio tell ABC News he has not changed his mind on the principles of a secure border and path to citizenship agreed to in January.

The current timetable according to Hill sources is the Senate introduces its bill next Monday, holds hearings and votes by July. The House version will likely be introduced the week of April 14. The House Gang of 8 is still waiting to hear if leadership will endorse its bill. Sources close to the House members working on its version tell ABC News its version is likely to be “a couple inches to the right of the Senate’s” and voted upon in the fall.

A realistic timetable for a bill emerging from the House and Senate conference would then be Thanksgiving.

That may seem like a long time for those not versed in the ways of Capitol Hill. But that is actually lightning speed. It’s quite unusual for legislation to be introduced and passed in the same calendar year.

That is ridiculous. That's a long freakin time. I think they're just playing it safe. Its going to pass by July for sure. I don't think the public will let them prolong it that much. Lets go march hard this summer.

I sincerely hope that isn't the case because once Congress returns from Summer Recess, their minds won't be on passing legislation. We get closer and closer to another election with every month that passes and I'm sure by November, the Republicans will be less willing to see reason when it comes to immigration reform and more focused on winning re-election in 2014.

Yeah, This absolutely makes no sense to me. What is Congress going to do from now till thanksgiving? Debate other bills? Debate on CIR surely can't take over 8 months US Congress does not work that way. Remember when Health Care reform was brought up. It was the only legislation they were working on. They even said last week that after Gun Legislation PASSES, Immigration will be next. Also, with this intense momentum, I don't think the public will wait for 8 months. Leahy has made it clear. He's not going to let people sit on their backs and walk like snails on this issue. It surely can't take 8 months to debate one damn bill. All the details have already been debated behind closed doors. Now its time for the amendments.

Seriously. Half of these posters on websites are only looking for somebody to blame for their jobless situation but almost all of them aren't educated on the concept of costs benefit analysis. Also, the fact remains that time is money. Why would Congress delay a major vote like this till thanksgiving? With that pace, people would officially become documented by the thanksgiving 2014 because keep in mind, it would take about 3-5 months for them to set up the process, another 3-5 months for approval. Finally, Obama would want the bill passed immediately in order to produce economic improvements as quickly as possible. Remember this is his last term. He wants to leave a legacy behind and prove to everybody that Immigration Reform is surely a boon for our economy!

Im also hoping they push things up. Alot can happen between now and Thanksgiving, like another shooting, terrorist act or something that causes Congress to shift thier focus.

wait, why the hell would they wait all summer, idiots. and why is the senate bill waiting for the house bill to be voted upon, they're two completely separate bills. and why would they even bother to introduce the house version if a COMPREHENSIVE bill is out there already. makes no sense to me. someone please explain.
