Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on Sunday that he wouldn't recommend that President-elect Donald Trump "retroactively remove" the status of those who qualify for protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program

Quote:
"I would say that, from some point forward, people will not be allowed to apply for renewal for that status,"

Quote:
"It expires. And what I would say is, if you have it, you'll have it for the remainder of that period of time, but you will not be able to renew it," Rubio said.

Quote:
In the meantime, and it's not a long period of time, but it does give us the time to do border security, modernization, and then move to something very reasonable for people like those who came here as children, or those who have been here for a long time who are not criminals to allow them to attain some legal status through a legal way, not an unconstitutional way, which is what DACA is."
It's starting to seem like this is going to be the likely outcome....

Well they better have something in place while we "expire." Honestly, they need to pass some sort of legislation before removing it.

Ditto. They need to realize most of us have big financial responsibilities, eg. mortgages, CCs, etc.

The closer we get to January 21st I can not imagine trump outright getting rid of the memo. If anything I can see a phasing out of renewals. However I think the public scrutiny would be hugeeeee, they need to have something concrete for us before phasing the program out.

More so than this, they need to realize (I'm pretty sure they already do including Trump) that the program is actually an amazing one for this country in pretty much every aspect. We're an educated bunch contributing to the economy and completely have good moral character. We should not panic at all. DACAers are like the face of the immigration problem and I truly think we're in safe hands. Even Republican congressmen are in support of us. Yeah there will be the odd radical conservative like Steve King but those idiots will not be able to do anything.

Little Marco Rubio is still suffering from his inferiority complex and trying to be white.

Yeah, its just simply unrealistic and knowing Trump, quite a successful businessman we must admit, I really don't think its his priority to "take away all EADs." I definitely think he's going to be working hard in other ways like tightening the legal immigration process especially from countries that are known to be terrorist havens. Now that is a realistic thing to expect. "Ending" DACA? No, that's not going to happen that easily.

It will be interesting how this plays out. It would be nice if it is phased out, but also be replace with something legislatively before we expire...

I think everyone's fear is that it is the easiest program for him to remove. He would need the help of congress for other measures. Either way, I think it's good that all of these republicans, including trump, realize that there needs to be a form of legalization for the millions of people here that came as youngsters and have stayed out of trouble.

Well that's the thing they need to pass something concrete before stopping renewals. People expire every month. Some of us just got our renewals for two years. There is no way they can end renewals and send people back to the shadows without a piece of legislation having passed.
