Idk, it seems like as long as the Republicans are anti-immigration, anti-abortion and pro guns they'll have their loyal base of voters no matter what else they do.

7 years of promising and repealing Obamacare and still nothing. They control 4,170 state legislative seats and control both chambers in 32 states, including 17 with veto-proof majorities. Those 32 states cover 61 percent of the U.S. population. It seems like they are untouchable no matter what they do.

I want to be optimistic about December. But can the Democrats even afford a shutdown? The Senate race in 2018 is going to be their toughest fight and they will most likely lose about 10 seats.

I hope Nancy is serious about a shutdown.

can some one provide some sort of time line?

This! I agree. I've had the same feeling. Something tells me that she will cave in come December. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Reason this will be blamed on Trump/GOP:
1) GOP controls all branches of government 2) To avoid a shutdown all the GOP would have to do is agree to add the DREAM Act (with some border security) - a measure that has bipartisanship support and a majority Americans (including Trump supporters) are in favor of.

The majority of trumps base is in support for legalization of dreamers. I don't think their base will get upset over da.

This is about accountability- nothing to do with guts. Immigrant communities have supported the Democratic party through deportations, crimminalization of immigration, etc with promises of action. So ppl become complacent. See how organizing has tempered after announcement of a deal that has yet to materialize.
I am optimistic of DreamAct passing but only because of progressive activism.

Don't listen to any clowns on here SWIM! We've got some lowlife trolls on here who marry for papers to ruin some innocent peoples lives and then come here to oppose DACA recipients being legalized. You are absolutely right! GOP is imploding right now and we will get our DREAM ACT passed. I don't care what else is in there. They can put in funding for any wall or any enforcement. I could care less. Immediate legalization of all DACA recipients coming this December!

1st person "so why is the government shut down?"

2nd person "cause the damn republicans dont want to pass the dream act!"

1st "what does the dream act have to do with funding the government?"

2nd "oh nothing but the democrats are attaching it to the funding bill and wont back down on it"

1st "man fucking democrats, X happened all because of these damn illegals and the democrats, why cant they just pass the dream act on its own? why do they have to play with the fate of america?"

of course your average joe sheep will believe their tv news, so we'll need the propaganda fake news outlet to spin it so it's trumps/republicans fault. of course we'll have counter fake news claiming the opposite.

truthfully we are holding the government hostage if we go this route. integrity is not something the pelosis(politicians) of this world care about though and when your average sheep is so dumb and unable/unwilling to muster even the slightest bit of logic or reasoning who cares.

it's just not us, they have to extend these policies via must-pass legislation.

- the CHIP (child health insurance program) that expired last month
- they have to deal with CSR (Cost Sharing Reductions) that Trump eliminated from the ACA
- resolve the differences to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 which they can also attach the DREAM Act to.
- raise the debt ceiling
- extend government funding

it's not all about us dude, we aint holding the government hostage. there are other policies that can result to a govt shutdown if they dont pass or extend any of the policy above.
